  • Rural site on a 13-acre bush park a few minutes' drive from the coast
  • Great base for exploring the Margaret River wine region
  • Tennis court, volleyball court, miniature golf and campers' kitchen
Stacks of sweet sights are within a simple jaunt from Western Australia's Gracetown Caravan Park: its rural bush setting is in the acclaimed Margaret River wine region, and it's a mere few minutes' drive from the golden beaches and surfing spots of the coast (if you're a boardmaster, you'll probably recognise the name of nearby surf break Huzzaz). You can tour the vineyards of the Margaret River wine with a local company or potter around on your own timetable around the several wineries within 20 kilometres of Gracetown. Foodie fans have rich pickings around here too, with cheese, chocolate and olive oil producers all nearby to enthusiastically visit. Back at base, sort your suppers at the undercover gas barbecues or at the campers' kitchen, which also has a campfire area to use outside the summer months. A small grocery shop is on site for guests; more supplies can be picked up at the general store in town. For leisurely days, there's a miniature golf course, courts for tennis, volleyball and basketball, a playground and wifi. Summer sees further on-site facilities including a bouncy castle and waterslide, and activities like outdoor film nights.

Electric tent, touring caravan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Activities, such as movie nights, food trucks, mini golf and general feeling of the park.

Disliked: Far from beach, too far for kids to walk on their own, not caravan park's fault though.

Local attractions

Three kilometres from the site is Cowaramup Bay beach, a top spot in this part of Western Australia for surfing as well as snorkelling, fishing and kayaking on the Cowaramup Bay reefs. Whale watching tours can be booked in season. Cow-themed town Cowaramup has plenty of cow-themed bits and pieces all around: a pic with the fibreglass life-sized Friesian cows and calves is surely recommended, as is a visit to the town's festival, Deja Moo, held every July. Organic wine, local artwork and local produce such as fudge, chocolate, olive oil, cheese, meat and soaps are plentiful in the town shops. From Cowaramup, the Margaret River Chocolate Factory, the Margaret River Cheese Company and the vineyards and wineries of the Margaret River wine region are all within easy reach. There are a few dozen winemakers and grape growers in the region, producing Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc, Shiraz and Merlot among others: learn the boozy tale of the lot at the Margaret River visitor centre in its eponymous town. You could also take a tour among the underground walkways and ladders of Ngilgi Cave and tackle the walking and mountain bike trails in the Blackwood State Forest, both within 30 kilometres, or sink into some scuba diving from Busselton, 45 kilometres away.
