  • Peaceful, spacious and green site in the Dordogne's Vézère valley
  • Treetop adventure course, caves and prehistoric sites a short drive
  • Outdoor pools and sun terrace alongside the restaurant and bar terrace
Countryside connoisseurs and families planning to relax will be highly chuffed by the green and scenic setting of France’s La Nouvelle Croze… its setting right in the middle of the Vézère valley is a simple 40 minutes’ pootle to both Sarlat-la-Canéda and Périgueux, in a rural and green location but with easy access to urbanised life and lots of prehistoric sites. You should certainly plan to remain for stretched-out spells on site too, for it's all serenely laid out among grassy areas, trees and lush hedges. It’s a lushly thought-out site with roomy pitches and tall hedging in between for proper privacy, and both the main pool and the paddling pool next door have spacious sun terraces dotted with sun loungers and umbrellas. The excellent layout continues with the situation of the shaded restaurant terrace right next to the pools, making it très facile for grownups to settle back to scoff and sip alfresco while keeping half an eye on splashing tadpoles. Takeaway pizzas are available too and there's a well-stocked grocery shop should you want to sort your own meals. Also on site for further leisure – besides, of course, all that open green space to relax/run around – are two kids' playgrounds, pétanque, volleyball and badminton courts and a ping pong table, as well as a games room with billiards and table football and a TV room to cosy up in. The indoor pool is open in all seasons, and there's a sauna, spa and balneotherapy to aid your lazy days too… as well as massages by appointment.

Local attractions

A treetop adventure course, canoeing and walking trails are available within 20 minutes’ drive. Also within easy reach are the excellent family attractions of Périgord Aquarium in Le Bugue or Le Bournat, a reconstruction of 19th-century village life in France with live demos, craft workshops and fairground rides. While nearby Rouffignac may be small, its Sunday market is nonetheless mighty, drawing bargain hunters and local produce lovers from lands afar throughout the year. Also nearby is Sarlat-la-Canéda, town of art and history and highly handsome medieval capital of the Périgord Noir: scooch here to pick up foie gras, cheese and truffles from its covered and seasonal street markets. Also close by is the Vézère valley, famed for its high concentration of spectacular prehistoric sites. 14 of them have been quite rightly classified by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites, including – oft referred to as the ‘Sistine Chapel’ of prehistoric landmarks – the Lascaux Cave near Montignac.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: We were warmly greeted at the reception and we were told about places of interest and walks. The location was lovely and quiet but close to places to visit. The site is very well kept and it looks like it’s improving further. The indoor pool was perfect and the outdoor pool area was a great place to relax.

Disliked: We were there at the end of low season so the bar, restaurant and shop were closed. We were given a list of restaurants and a supermarket was close by but we would have loved to sit at the bar which had a beautiful view.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Quentin and Jean-Noel are amazing. They have created a lovely, clean and uplifting environment and welcome everyone with friendly smiles and help. The setting is beautiful and some great, interesting attractions are close by. They happily advise what to try as well. The pools are well maintained and the sauna is great! A truly relaxing end to a lovely holiday in France. Our first since the world opened up again. PS…we also had a little situation where our car got stuck ‘off road’. Jean-Noel and Quentin came to the rescue and towed us out without question…although with a few chuckles.

Disliked: Nothing

Electric grass pitch
