  • Peaceful and lushly leafy site on the banks of the Dordogne river
  • Within half an hour's drive of UNESCO-listed Saint-Émilion village
  • Weekly massage service, miniature golf course and pool with solarium
On the banks of the Dordogne river and at the borders of the Périgord, Gironde and Lot et Garonne regions lies peaceful Camping La Rivière Fleurie: whether it's town and village wanders, woodland walks or water-based sports you're in the market for, you'll be able to get stuck into all manner of sightseeing excursions and outdoorsy pursuits from the site and nearby. Sportif sorts can source a good range of outdoor activities around the immediate locale, from fishing and canoeing on the river that runs alongside the property to games of tennis, golf and paintball, or horseback hacks, forest hikes and lengthy local bike rides. When you’re not off doing all there is to do close by, on-site activity comes in the form of table tennis, table football, billiards and miniature golf (all for a nominal fee). A pétanque pitch is also at your disposal for when you're after something super serene. If you’ve overdone it on the sporting front, then fear not: Rivière Fleurie's visiting masseuse Charly is on hand every Wednesday to provide any number of massage treatments (charges apply), and will tend to your at your pitch or, if you prefer, administer her expert healing touch in a separate massage suite. Continuing with the relaxation theme, chills can be had by or in the heated outdoor pool, and if you’re an avid reader the park's well-stocked library is where you should head, for it carries titles in French, English and Dutch; hang out there or bring your book to a lounger and loll around on the poolside solarium – should you be prone to overheating under the firey French sun, you can punctuate your lazing sessions with dips in the pool to cool right off again. During summer, the park’s friendly team organises a good bunch of entertainment events and activities to suit even the most discerning holidaymaker, such as wine tastings and themed meal evenings at which you can discuss your favourite grape and break bread with fellow guests, all before hitting the tiles at one of the regular dance dos here. The rest of the year, the site’s restaurant and pizzeria – which lies handily close to the playground for surveilling playtime antics – is on hand to quell any hunger pangs, and self-catering staples can be bought from the grocery store at reception. Typically sleepy peeps are well catered to here too – fresh bread and/or pastries can be ordered the day before to be delivered the next morning, and are so tasty they’re guaranteed to rouse even the sleepiest from their slumber.

Local attractions

As well as river-based activities such as fishing and canoeing from the site and nearby, the surrounding landscape lends itself to a whole heap of active pursuits such as tennis, golf and paintball, plus horse riding, woodland walks and bike rides around the locale: just ask the site’s friendly team to point you in the right direction when you arrive. Shopping aficionados and bargain hunters are well served by a rather excellent market that's held on Saturday mornings in Sainte Foy La Grande, eight kilometres away, and the traditional flea markets in Castillon La Bataille are well worth the 20-minute drive to too. Should you be of a history-seeking persuasion, it’s highly recommended that you head to the settlement of Bergerac to wander its tree-lined boulevards and shaded arcades and, should you have time, that you also perhaps follow a stint here with the seven-kilometre trip outside the town to investigate the 16th-century Château de Monbazillac. Several other such options lie within easy reach of Camping La Rivière Fleurie too, including the UNESCO-listed village of Saint-Émilion, with its spectacular vistas out over the underlying valley and vineyards; the archeological site of Montcaret; and the Château de Rauzan, all around half an hour’s drive or less from base. For something rather more kid-friendly the the zoo in Mescoules, 35 minutes’ drive away, is where younger brains will be most at their most amused.
