  • In a scenic valley setting in the Lot-et-Garonne
  • Pool, play area and many outdoor activities available
  • On-site restaurant with local products
Feel rightly laidback in a peaceful Lot-et-Garonne place at Camping Le Pouchou, a family-friendly campsite in a quiet and green valley at the foot of the handsome old lakeside town (and beaches) of Montaigu-de-Quercy. If you feel ever so slightly active, activities like canoeing, tennis, cycling and mountain biking are easy to find in the surrounding countryside; if not, this is a calm and placid site where you can settle down by the pool or send the rest of your party off to the play area, pétanque court, or roomy communal space with ping-pong tables, billiard tables and TV. (Et if you'd prefer to sedately surf? Wifi is available throughout the site.) Le Pouchou also calmly sorts eats and drinks at its restaurant dishing up local specialties as well as famed French wines, at the snack bar and the grocery shop selling essentials and morning fresh bread and pastries. Amenities include modern showers and toilet blocks, a launderette and a washing-up area, disabled facilities and a drying area.

Local attractions

The comely old town of Montaigu-de-Quercy, Camping Le Pouchou's local, is a lakeside one, with sandy beaches and boat cruises on its waters. It also holds a traditional market on Saturdays where you can (should) sort (many) supplies of fresh local produce such as fruit, veg, cheese and wine. Several scenic villages are within easy reach of Montaigu, like the riverside stronghold of Penne d'Agenais, where smashing Lot valley views can be seen from the viewpoint near the basilica, and Pujols, one of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France. The 13th-century promontory fortified castle of the Château de Bonaguil is well worth the drive for a day trip, particularly if your visit can coincide with its summer fireworks display where the castle blazes light over its high-up setting: ask at local tourist offices for details of the Bonaguil feux d'artifice.
