  • Lakeside site in the Pyrenees a 30-minute drive from Pau
  • Beach, watersports, fishing, bar and shop
  • Terrace restaurant on the lake, 15 waterslides and nautical ski lift
You don't get many sites with their own nautical ski lifts. Or their own beach. And most definitely not a full 15 waterslides... all of which await your family antics at Camping Les Okiri, a lakeside site in the Pyrenees. You can leap into the water from way up high at Les Okiri's jumping platform, whizz down the waterslides or zip along the lake surface on waterskis... all without leaving the grounds. Or opt for swimming instead under the keen eye of the lifeguard, or perhaps you'd care to lounge on the beach while the kids paddle at the water's edge...? Fishing, tennis, pétanque and a games room are also on site. For eats (and drinks), a terrace restaurant is by the lake; a bar and shop are nearby and a farmers' market is within a quick drive. Les Okiri is five minutes' walk from the Pyrénées-Atlantiques commune of Baudreix, half an hour from the festivals, concerts and regular events of lively department capital Pau and 45 minutes from somewhat quieter times at Lourdes. Canoeing and kayaking are available nearby, along with climbing, golf and cycling the local Tour de France routes.

Local attractions

Pyrénées-Atlantiques capital Pau is packed with events and attractions all year long, including food and culture festivals in all seasons, plenty of museums, galleries and shops, and facilities for activities from parkour to parachuting. If you can't be faffed driving/parking there, it's about 35 minutes to Pau by bus, from the stop outside the Baudreix lycée. Take time too just to stroll around the city: Pau's panorama of the Pyrenees and the hillsides of Jurançon from the fab Boulevard des Pyrénées has been hailed as 'the world's most beautiful view of the earth' (as Naples was hailed as the most beautiful of the sea). Start off at the Château de Pau at one end of the 1.8-kilometre boulevard and wander to Parc Beaumont for the most famed Pau views, of the Gave de Pau river in town and the peaks of the Pyrenees to the south. Then zip back for the National Museum in Pau's Château de Pau, the most visited heritage site in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. More Pyrenees highlights are at the famed Pic du Jer, 50 minutes away above Lourdes: take the funicular railway on its sloping route up for 950 metres, then hike one of the paths to the summit.
