  • Peaceful campsite on the Basque Coast close to Biarritz
  • 600 metres from the beach and 15 minutes' drive from Spain
  • Waterpark, hot tub, playground, sports court and bar-restaurant
Sea, mountains, countryside and a short 15-minute drive to Spain are the boxes ticked at Ciela Village Camping Atlantica in the Basque Country, in Saint-Jean-de-Luz a short drive from swish days out at Biarritz. The nearest beach is a ten-minute walk from the campsite if you're going coastwards; inland, it's easy from here to get to Pyrénées-Atlantiques countryside and to the peaks of the Pyrenees for long hiking days. Local town Saint-Jean-de-Luz has a large, safe and clean beach right in its centre. The modern facilities at Ciela Village Camping Atlantica should see even the fussiest guest sorted: a 300m² heated waterpark, a hot tub, a sports court, a playground, a TV room and wifi. The bar-restaurant serves takeaway as well as meals; fresh bread, croissants and pastries can be ordered on site and delivered in the morning. Ciela Village Camping Atlantica also has a laundry room, showers and toilets, and a drying room.

Local attractions

As it's between the sea and mountains with a whopping selection of fine beaches and clear waters, the Basque Country is a popular pull for those who like to hike, stroll or get into the water. Festivals and fairs run regularly throughout the year too; ask the Ciela Village Camping Atlantica team what's on when you're around. Local town Saint-Jean-de-Luz has been a fishing port of some import for yonks, particularly for tuna, anchovies and sardines: get along to the Tuna Festival if you're around in July or the Amateur Tuna Fishing Championship if you're here in August. About 20 kilometres from Saint-Jean-de-Luz is Biarritz, the swish seaside resort that's also thought to be the first place in Europe where surfing was first practised and now home of the annual Biarritz Surf Festival. Heaps more is in town to see too, such as the Asiatica Museum and the 24 aquaria of the Museum of the Sea; the Museum of Chocolate, and twelfth century St Martin's Church. If you're up for active days out, ask at the Ciela Village Camping Atlantica reception about booking excursions and activities including surfing, jetskiing, rafting, quad biking and kayaking.
