  • Wellness area with Finnish bath and woodburning and infrared saunas
What might be among your top holiday wins? How about a hot tub, combined with splendid pastoral views... perhaps with bonus points for a glass of something tasty in hand...? Have a look at the site pics to see a place you'll very – very – much like, Camping de Saint-Urcize and its Finnish bath high up on the Aubrac plateau Overlooking the plains of Aubrac and Saint-Urcize, Camping de Saint-Urcize is a peaceful place between the village of Saint-Urcize and the ski station of the same name, and around a five-minute drive from each. This is a mighty scenic setting, surrounded by basalt cliffs and with a small river and waterfall at the site’s edge forming a natural bathing pool. Everything here has been thoughtfully organised to max out on those gorgeous views: pitches are arranged across terraces so that each guest can feast upon the outlook. Around the area, hiking trails around the Aubrac plateau are accessible from the site, with mountain guides available during the summer months, or you could alternate your hot tub days with horse riding tours, fishing, mountain biking and skiing. Clearly some grand feeds will be needed to fuel all these days out; depending on the season you can grill your meals out on a barbie or cooking indoors in the the common room’s kitchen; a small shop on site with fresh bread opens in high season, and a supermarket is in the local village. The wellness area on site also has a traditional woodburning sauna and an infrared sauna to use for a small extra charge.

Local attractions

Bring your boots and/or your bike: hiking trails leave from the site and bike/mountain bike rental and guided tours of plateau's circuits are available at the village tourist office. If you’d like to see the area on horseback, a riding centre 10 minutes away has a programme of treks and lessons for beginners. For something a little gentler, it’s about a 15-minute drive to fishing in the Bès river. Buy daily fishing licences from a hotel in the Saint-Urcize ski area, or sign up for an organised course for novices and intermediates – the site staff can point you in the right direction. Club wielders of all ages have a golf course, driving range and miniature golf course half an hour away in Chaudes-Aigues. Also in Chaudes-Aigues is further wallowing at the thermal centre, with thermal waterfalls, saunas, a hammam, thermal treatments and an outdoor pool with underwater music. A whole new range of activities opens up in winter: Saint-Urcize (a five-minute drive away) has 35 kilometres of cross country ski trails, six downhill trails, snowshoeing, dog sledding and tobogganing.
