General
- Family site adjacent to the Dunières river
- Bouncy castle, kids' activities and evening entertainment
- Pools, bar terrace and restaurant
This is green green land... Camping de Vaubarlet is in the lush and hilly landscape of the Haute-Loire department, between Saint-Etienne and the department capital of Le Puy-en-Velay. And it's nicely rivery land too, as the site is set adjacent to the Dunière river: do take up the team up on its weekly invite to kayak on the same if you're around in peak season...
Also in peak season, games and activities for kids run six days a week; a bouncy castle and play area are around to keep smalls sorted at other times. Evening entertainment such as concerts, dancing shows and discos runs during the same time at the bar terrace.
The bar terrace is next to the restaurant which serves regional dishes, homemade pizzas, snacks and takeaway (a shop selling essentials, fresh bread and pastries is also on site). Opposite the bar terrace and restaurant is the heated pool and paddling pool popular with all types.
Camping de Vaubarlet is 580 metres above sea level, adjacent to the fishing of the Dunière river, and in a network of hiking and mountain biking trails among its 14 hectares. Fishing is available on site, with more around in the surrounding area, along with hiking, biking, canoeing, more kayaking and many other outdoorsy and rivery pursuits in this splendid natural region – or perhaps you'd prefer a little nap on park underneath the pine trees...?

Location
Take the N88 in the direction of Saint-Etienne to Le-Puy-en-Velay, come off on to the D44 and head towards Sainte Sigolène. At the roundabout at the entrance to Sainte Sigolène turn right towards Grazac on the D43. Follow this road for 6km following the signs for the campsite (don't cross the bridge across the Dunière river).
Local attractions
As we say, this is green green land, so if you have an outdoorsy passion, prepare to get stuck into it here.
This isn't a hugely known part of the Haute-Loire so it's away from the busier tourist spots, and it has a good variety of landscapes in which to try a good variety of activities. You could canoe or kayak along the Loire river or in its gorges, fly fish in the gorges of the Dunière and Lignon rivers, or climb around one or more of the four mountain ranges spanning the Haute-Loire.
Nearby Le Puy-en-Velay's main sight is the striped twelfth century Cathédrale Notre-Dame du Puy, reached by climbing 60 steps and one of the 78 structures on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela in France. A meal in the town is also a must – did you ever wonder why puy lentils are so called...?
Lyon is about an hour's drive away.
