Ever been surfing in Brittany? If you have, we think you might have heard of Pointe de la Torche, one of the most famed surfing spots in southern Bretagne and in Finistère: windsurfing, body boarding and kitesurfing occur among the foam too. If you haven't been surfing in Brittany, tsk. Sort it out with a stay less than three kilometres from the Point and the fine sandy beaches of the Bay of Audierne at Camping de Lanven, and in a wild natural setting where guests have easy access to the Finistère countryside as well as its seaside and surf. Friendly host Patrick has everything in hand for comfy and relaxed stays: breakfast served alfreso or indoors daily from 8am until noon in high season; other eats sorted at the snack bar and takeaway from 8am until 10pm in July and August, and themed entertainment including world cuisine and barbecue nights, karaoke nights and music shows running in peak season. The campsite also has a playground, a volleyball court, table tennis, a badminton court, a TV room and a grocery store, open in July and August and selling fresh bread and pastries and other essentials including postcards, stamps and gas canisters. A welcome desk operates on site in July and August.

Local attractions

Pointe de la Torche is a topping French surfing spot and is a popular Brittany destination for watersports fans; if you've never dipped a toe in, do it here as there's a local surf school to show you what's what. (And then you can boast back home that you learned to surf in Brittany, doncha know...) Aside from the surf, Camping de Lanven is in a splendid spot to see the rest of south Finistère or Brittany as a whole, whether you want to eat your way around the land via its tasty Breton cuisine, visit the local ports of Saint-Pierre and Saint-Guénolé, hike the kilometres' worth of paths on the GR34, or potter around the Penmarch peninsula. Quimper is less than an hour's drive away: head here to see Brittany at its most ancient among the city's cobbled streets and medieval buildings.
