  • Family site four kilometres from La Trinité-sur-Mer
  • 15 minutes' drive from the Carnac standing stones
  • Waterpark with waterslides, paddling pool and heated indoor pool
Pool time, all the time – and a huge huzzah for that. Oui, the folks at Brittany’s Camping Le Fort Espagnol have certainly got things sorted for splash-happy family hols, with an outdoor waterpark (with paddling pool, waterslides, a water play area and hot tub) and a covered, heated pool (with spa area and massage seats) to retreat to on cooler days. And how about the occasional break from the waters? They’ve got things sorted on that front too, with a tennis court, pétanque court and playground, as well as a lengthy list of entertainment and activities for tinies, teens and grownups. Don’t expend all your energy on the daytime shenanigans though – the ents frequently run on into the evening, inviting you to sing, dance and play games as night falls. Perhaps you’ll even find time to leave site from time to time… It’s a mighty fine idea to do so, maybe hiring bikes on site to cycle through the lush green surrounds or pedal off to the nearest village, Crac’h, to stock up on supplies at the bakery and convenience store, or stopping for eats and drinks in its bars, restaurants and crêperie. Getting even more adventurous? The site is a 10-minute drive from the beaches around La Trinité-sr-Mer and further along the Gulf of Morbihan, and 15 minutes from the ancient attractions of Carnac.

Local attractions

Had your fill of pool water (at least for the time being)? It’s a mere 10-minute car journey to get to the beach and sailing schools of La Trinité-sur-Mer, and there are plenty of other options nearby too if you’d like to keep the scenery ever-changing: try Carnac Plage (20 minutes) for family facilities, Saint-Pierre Lopérec (15 minutes) for sand dune scrambles, or Kerhilio (half an hour) for soft sands and activities including sand yachting and kitesurfing. You’re also well placed here for a bit of bimbling around nearby Breton towns – the half-timbered houses of Saint-Goustan (half an hour’s drive), perhaps, or the aquarium and butterfly garden in Vannes (25 minutes). Seafaring sorts will want to visit the sailing museum and World War II sub in Lorient (35 minutes); those who are more interested in seafood feasts may prefer the fish restaurants in Saint-Pierre-Quiberon (40 minutes) – best visited after working up an appetite strolling the Quiberon peninsula. One that history buffs won’t want to miss is Carnac (15 minutes), famed for its ancient granite megaliths dating all the way back to 4000BC. There’s an excellent Museum of Prehistory here too, and a little tourist train that can help you tour the site if you’re not up for the walk.
