Set out across a leafy four-hectare park on the edge of a woodland, and next to a lake with watersports activities, family-oriented Camping du Perche is in the highly pretty Perche Regional Natural Park, and a convenient kilometre from the compact town of Fontaine-Simon. If you’re into watery pursuits like zipping around on waterskis or wakeboards, those are sorted at the lake a minute's walk away. Meanwhile, the covered waterpark next door is the place to go for waterslides and long soaks in a Jacuzzi. The site is well placed for exploring the local countryside by foot, bike or horseback too, as there are lots of trails around for all abilities. It’s also easy to get out to the lovely city of Chartres to gaze admiringly at the stained glass windows of its UNESCO-listed Gothic cathedral (you can drive or take a train from the station four kilometres away). Back at base, drop the kids off the roomy playground with trampoline and bouncy castle, or take them to the mini farm to meet goats and chickens. During the summer holidays there’s yet more going on, as the park’s friendly team organises entertainment and activities such as pétanque tournaments, dance nights and barbecue evenings to help guests get to know each other.

From the manager: Nous sommes désolés que la nuit passée dans le camping ne vous ai pas apporté satisfaction. Nous sommes surpris quant à votre note sur la propreté et les installations. Les emplacements camping-car sont stabilisés en partie pour éviter de rester embourbés en début de saison. L'accès actuellement est assez boueux malgré le chemin stabilisé mais il pleut presque sans discontinuer depuis plus de 4 mois. Les espaces verts sont saturés d'eau, ils salissent les chaussures et amènent que le sol du sanitaire soit sali si le tapis d'entrée n'a pas été utilisé. Nous sommes dépendants de la météo et nous la subissons. Nous espérons vous revoir à une saison plus favorable pour que vous puissiez découvrir notre camping sous un autre jour.

Liked: The campsite was lovely and the lady at reception was so accommodating. The pitches were big and my daughter enjoyed the park which was it such great condition. I would definitely stay again.

Liked: Lovely friendly site. well maintained. Large pitches with plenty of space. Free wifi but didn't use. Facilites were clean with seriously hot water. As we were only there on night we did not have time to explore the area too much. Would come again.

Liked: Warm, friendly and helpful welcome. Despite the pouring rain the lady on reception took time to find us a pitch for our caravan that we could get on without getting covered in mud. Despite her getting soaked! The friendly goats were a hit with our granddaughter. Being next to an indoor water park and outdoor water sports facility is great for keeping kids amused in poor weather. Small shop sells essential supplies (wine!) and the showers and toilets, although typical French were clean, spacious and perfectly adequate. This is now on our favourites list.

Disliked: Nothing.

Local attractions

At the lake next to the site, guests can use the waterski lift for the likes of wakeboarding, kneeboarding and waterskiing. There's a lake beach and grassy area alongside, and an indoor pool with Jacuzzi next to the lake as well. You can't swim or fish here, but there's a good fishing lake about four kilometres away. Also within easy reach of this Fontaine-Simon retreat is an aerodrome for lofty and daredevil pursuits, from gliding over the land in a microlight or hovering high above in a helicopter for spectacular aerial views, to early morning and stupendously scenic hot air balloon flights. A treetop adventure park is in the area too for zipline zooms and clambers around rope courses. An urbanised day can be more than adequately filled over in Chartres, 50 minutes’ drive away, where among lots of other city-based attractions like sampling local treats and touring shop-lined streets, there’s a UNESCO-listed 13th-century cathedral with features such as towering twin spires; the cathedral's also famed for its Romanesque sculptures, a paved labyrinth and distinctive blue-tinged stained glass windows.

Admission

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Dogs

A valid vaccination certificate must accompany your dog.
Dogs are not allowed if you are staying in the accommodation units.
Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
Guide dogs are allowed on site free of charge.

Safety

Barbecues are permitted but must be raised off the ground and attended by an adult at all times.

Vehicles

Only one car is to be parked by the pitch. Extra vehicles must be parked in the designated area.
