  • Between the Mediterranean and the Cévennes National Park
  • Surrounded by vineyards, with wine tasting events on site
  • Pool, spa, restaurant-bar and multilingual library
Wine tasting, right on site? And leisurely dips in a heated pool and pamper sessions in a spa – after taking a campsite bike out to pedal around this area thick with vineyards? Oui, oui and very much oui. As you'll have gathered, wine is quite a theme at the Gad department's , set between Cevennes and Camargue and surrounded by Languedoc vineyards. But you'll find a corking amount of things to see and do on and off this swish site too: its location between the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains of the Cévennes National Park has it set for outdoorsy days hiking, horse riding, canoeing and fishing – and as well as the wine sampling, the friendly team here sorts activities and events like fitness classes, zumba, aquagym and music for kids, teens and families in high season. Montpellier is around 50km away and the coast is within 40km. Alongside the pool and spa, other facilities at this colourful and well-maintained site include a multilingual library, an outdoor fitness area and ping pong tables; eats and drinks are easily sorted too at the restaurant-bar, takeaway and small shop selling fresh bread and pastries in the morning. The Le Mas de Reilhe washrooms have disabled access and baby-changing facilities.

Local attractions

Once you've peeled yourself away from the spa, pool and wine tasting, hire a bike from the team to pedal into the green countryside and the Languedoc-Roussillon vineyards. About 15 kilometres away and surrounded by vineyards is the medieval town of Sommières, with a mighty fine Roman bridge spanning the Vidourle river, and a historical centre crammed with houses, ramparts and passages from the thirteenth to eighteenth centuries.   Several options covering most tastes are well within an hour's drive from the site: try the tree climbing adventure circuits at Parc Parfum d'Aventure, 30km away; the botanical garden of the Bambouseraie de Prafrance and the medieval town of Uzès, both within 35km, and the fab and ancient Roman aqueduct of the Pont du Gard over the Gardon river, 40 kilometres away. Cycling, hiking, horse riding, canoeing and fishing are all nearby and several golf courses are within 20km.
