Local attractions

Camping Les Gorges de l’Hérault is near the heritage site of the spectacular Cirque de Navacelles, carved into the limestone millenia ago by a meander of the Vis river and now one of the Grands Sites de France. It's a must-see in these parts; descend 300 metres to the bottom to get to the Vis waterfall, a nature trail, and the tiny village of Navacelles. Also anciently, the nearby Grotte des Demoiselles is a humongous limestone cave stretching for kilometres under the Hérault valley, with its main entrance at Saint-Bauzille-de-Putois. They had the first underground open funicular in Europe, taking visitors right to the top of the mountain through caverns and mammoth stalactites and stalagmites: do bring a camera. A café with terrace is at the top of the mountain for coffee with jaw-dropping views. The site's local town is Sumène, about 20 kilometres from both Sauve and Saint-Martin-de-Londres.
