  • Peaceful site in rural Gard surroundings
  • A few kilometres' drive from Avignon
  • Bar, playground, TV room, communal barbecue facilities and shop
A peaceful green haven is, you might think, quite enough to fill your days with on a break in rural France. But there's so much around this park’s excellent setting in the Gard department that you're likely to want to get out and explore quite a bit too. As well as having a scenic site setting near the banks of the Rhône, the two and a half hectares of La Laune are a kilometre from the centre of Villeneuve-lès-Avignon and four kilometres from Avignon. A skate park and tennis courts are a short walk away, and the public pool close by provides La Laune guests with one free visit during their stay. The on-site shop is well stocked with whatever groceries you might need, and the communal barbecue is a good spot for relaxing outside with a burger or three before heading to the bar for a nice cold beer. If you’re organised enough you can order bread the day before to have delivered from 8am, just in time for brekkie; otherwise, there are plenty of nice eateries over in Villeneuve and Avignon. There’s a playground on site for swinging, sliding and clambering, and for rainy days (though it’s doubtful you’ll have many of those), the TV room’s got your entertainment sorted. A wifi service is available at reception or in the bar. Guests are usually well impressed by the size of La Laune’s spacious and shaded pitches, and the the sparkling sanitary block comes highly rated too.

Local attractions

A tennis court, a skate park and a public pool lie right next to the park, and the 14th-century medieval ruin of Fort Saint André is a short walk away. Cross over Pont d’Avignon and you’ll be met with a rather impressive array of ecclesiastical architecture, most notably the soaring UNESCO–listed palatial fortress, the Palais des Papes. If you’re there at the right time of year, you can join in with Avignon’s annual arts festival – the largest of its kind in France – and for the rest of the year, there are plenty of boutique-lined avenues, shaded squares, coffee shop terraces and excellent restaurants to explore. If you’re partial to a bag of Haribo every now and again, then you’ll be chuffed to hear that the Haribo Sweet Museum over in Uzès is a short drive away, as are the Cévennes mountains for horse riding, walking and cycling.
