A right belter of a waterpark is at family site Le Domaine de Sainte Véziane near the fab old Hérault commune of Bessan: all ages can make a splash here among its huge pool handsomely lined with palm trees, its three waterslides, its paddling pool and its water toys – or perhaps you'd rather steam away gently in the Jacuzzi corner while thinking your own dreamy little thoughts…? If beaches are more your bag, Sainte Véziane is close to some beaut stretches of Mediterranean sand, like the wide golden beach of Vias-Plage eight kilometres away, and the long length at the port and harbour town of Cap d'Agde (also a famed naturist spot if that's your bag too). Amusement parks? Europark Vias Plage and Aqualand Cap d'Agde are eight and 15 kilometres away. Aquagym classes are held regularly during summer at Sainte Véziane if you want more watery antics, all part of a July and August programme run by the team that includes a kids' club, live music, karaoke and sports tournaments. Also to keep you amused and fed/watered, the site has a bar-restaurant, a food shop, a pétanque court and wifi.

Local attractions

Le Domaine de Sainte Véziane's Bessan setting has it close to beaches, watersports and seaside towns on the coastal side as well as days inland meandering around Hérault vineyards, the banks of the Orb river, and nature-spotting lagoons like Étang de Thau and Étang de Bagnas. Go karting, miniature golf and river kayaking are all available nearby. The closest sands to the site are at popular seaside resort Vias-Plage, eight kilometres away, and at Cap d'Agde, ten kilometres away also a popular spot for horse riding. Agde has a market selling local produce on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays (closer to home, Bessan's markets are on Tuesdays and Sundays). For towns and villages within easy driving distance of the site, have a look at Marseillan eight kilometres away, Pezenas at 11 kilometres, Meze 16 kilometres away, and ancient Béziers, right in France's biggest wine-producing region, within 17. Splendidly scenic Sète, the biggest fishing port on France's Mediterranean coast, is 23 kilometres from Bessan.
