  • Quiet and shaded family site on the Canal du Midi
  • Surrounded by the vineyards of Languedoc and 6km from beaches
  • Big outdoor pool surrounded by palm trees and sun loungers
Take your pick from canal trips, vineyard trips and Mediterranean beaches on a holiday at Hérault's Les Berges du Canal, right on the banks of the Canal du Midi in southern France. Hire a bike from Nadine, Marc and their friendly team to pedal alongside this peaceful canal, or wander its many locks on foot. You could also bike to local town Villeneuve-les-Beziers, to historic Beziers six kilometres away, or to the markets of Serignan and Portiragnes, both four kilometres from the site. Les Berges du Canal is a peaceful and shaded family-friendly park, surrounded by the vineyards of Languedoc and close to the beaches of the Mediterranean. It has a big outdoor pool surrounded by greenery, palm trees and sun loungers, plus a play area and a TV room along with a kids' club that's open in high season. Dogs are allowed. The bar and restaurant has a terrace overlooking the canal; there's a shop on site, and a supermarket is a short drive away.

Electric gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch

Disliked: Nichts

Electric gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: The location by the canal is really nice and the pool area is lovely. Restaurant food was nice .

Disliked: Arrived and given a pitch where someone was already pitched, when I told the gentleman on reception he pointed to a pitch just across from the reception and said "we have that one " so we took it , unfortunately as this pitch was practically in the carpark, it was very noisy on a night and not private at all. We hired a Fridge €20 for the 4 days , it was so dirty but I cleaned it with bleach spray . Went for a shower and after queuing for a short time , the water was so cold . There is not enough sanitary facilities for the size of the site and the amount of quest's. Service in the restaurant was inadequate 30 minutes to order We paid for 4 nights but left after 2

Electric grass and earth pitch (comfort)

Liked: Helemaal niets

Disliked: De plaats was bezet door auto en brommer. De plaats was te klein voor mijn caravan. De toegangswegen waren niet bedoeld voor auto met caravan. Het was een doolhof met straten waar je je vast reed. De camping was overboekt.

Electric grass and earth pitch (comfort)

Liked: The bread from the shop

Disliked: We arrived and were told we were too big for the campsite (we have a Bailey Valencia 24 ft caravan and had put the dimensions on our Pitch up booking form). The campsite said that Pitchup don’t let them know the size of the caravans. This could be easily resolved o would have thought. Next we were told to go to a certain pitch number manoeuvring around very tight corners. But when we arrived at the pitch someone else was on it (the Belgian couple in front of us were directed to a pitch number with a mobile home on it but they had a caravan too). We were eventually showed to another pitch and then went for a shower. The shower was cold. We might have used the wrong shower block attached to the swimming pool but you would have thought it would have been luke warm at least. There was then very loud French karaoke on the site that went on until 11.45pm. We chose the site as it was close to the motorway and broke up a 15 hour journey from Bordeaux to Italy. In general the pitches looked small and I can only imagine if you go there with a young family and the entertainment is like that every night it would be difficult to have a restful time. We were glad to be on our way the next day.

Local attractions

The ancient town of Beziers, once a Roman colony, is a scenic six-kilometre bike ride from the site, filled with buildings to see from throughout the centuries. Pick up a leaflet at the tourist office for details of the several walks around the town. Beziers has four museums: Le Musée des Beaux Arts at the Hotel Fabregat, with works by Decamps, Degas and Rodin; Le Musée des Beaux Arts at the Hotel Fayet, showcasing a collection of sculptures by local artist Jean-Antoine Injalbert and with a courtyard broadcasting concerts and theatre productions; Le Musée du Biterrois, with artefacts from prehistoric times onwards, and Le Musée d’Histoire Naturelle, home to collections of natural history. From Beziers, you can head north to small towns like Roquebrun; south and east to seaside resorts including Cap d'Agde, and west to the old centre of Narbonne, with 13th-century cathedral and remains of the Roman road Via Domitia. The nearest beaches, including the award-winning sands of Valras and Portiragnes, are within six kilometres.
