A welcome drink awaits on arrival at this family-friendly campsite in the Cévennes National Park, near the town of Meyrueis in the Languedoc-Rousillion department of the Lozère. Settle down at Domaine Aigoual Cévennes for family days among the many well-kept facilities, including a heated outdoor pool surrounded by sunloungers, a library, a sports field, a roomy high season games room with table tennis and pool tables a pétanque court, and an events room with tables, chairs, sofas and a fireplace for lazy indoor days (board games and pétanque boules can be hired from the Domaine Aigoual Cévennes team). High season sees live entertainment for all, plus a kids' club held in July and August. Showers, disabled facilities, a washing-up area and a launderette with washing machines, dryers and irons are to hand for guests, along with a big communal barbecue for evening eats.

Local attractions

Domaine Aigoual Cévennes is at Meyrueis, a small town between the mountains of the Cévennes, the limestone massifs and UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Causses, the canyons of the Gorges de la Jonte, and the fably viewsome Gorges du Tarn: as you might expect, this is a land of highly spectacular scenery and a high amount of activities. Kayaking, climbing, motorbiking, fishing and horse riding are all popular picks here; for a more peaceful vibe, amble around the Meyrueis farms and cheese making sites open for visitors, like the brewery and farm of Caussenarde – yes, beer tasting is available here too... Also in the area and well worth a visit (after a few days at least at the Jonte and Tarn gorges, of course) is the ruined fortress of the Château de Peyrelade, set in prime position on Mont Aigoual at the entrance to the Gorges du Tarn. It's one of over 20 Aveyron places on the Route des Seigneurs du Rouergue, a collection of castles and other significant sites around the former province of Rouergue.
