  • Outdoor pool, wifi, restaurant and bar and a grocery shop on site
  • Around half an hour's drive from porcelain-producing Limoges
Scenic walks, lake swims, leisurely bike rides, château viewing – oui, there are plenty of ways to fill many days around Camping Parc Verger, just outside the little village of Champagnac-la-Rivière. Settle in here and you’ll be surrounded by the Périgord Limousin Regional Natural Park, a fab place for folk who like to roam on foot or by bike, thanks to the gentle hills and quiet paths. Lovely Limoges is just over half an hour away from here, and there are lots of little villages to poke around in, perhaps hitting the markets to pick up some foodie treats for your evening eats… Previous guests have heaped praise on friendly owner Franc, who’ll happily dish out advice on the best ways to spend your days around here. He's also set up the site with some welcome treats for weary wanderers – cool off in the surface-mounted pool before putting your feet up with a wine or beer from the shop, or wandering over to the licensed café-restaurant for eats and drinks. If you're self catering, the shop also sells a range of groceries – a splendid solution when you don’t fancy the 15-minute stroll to the village for supplies.

Local attractions

Lace up your boots and head off for a stroll – there are lots of easy routes from Champagnac-la-Rivière, 15 minutes' walk away, and more throughout the Périgord Limousin Regional Natural Park. Two-wheeled types have plenty of choice too, including a Voie Verte cycleway along an old railway line very close by. Horse riding, golf and fishing are also available within a half-hour drive, and there’s a sandy beach 15 minutes away, where you can swim in the cool waters of Lac de Saint-Mathieu. Among the historic houses nearby are Château de Brie, surrounded by 800 acres of woodland, Château de Montbrun and Château de Châlus-Maulmont, once home to Richard the Lionheart. All are within an hour’s drive. Also excellent for a day out is Limoges, just over half an hour away, to see the Gothic cathedral, the 13th-century half-timbered buildings and the National Porcelain Museum (and perhaps purchase some porcelain for yourself too).
