  • Friendly lakeside site with spectacular views over the Arédien hills
  • A 10-minute walk from Saint-Germain-les-Belles
  • Fish (March to September) for carp, trout, pike and roach; swimming
Let your hair down lakeside at Camping de Montréal, where your time can be spent swimming and admiring the views over the Arédien hills. It's just 10 minutes' walk away from Saint-Germain-les-Belles, where there are restaurants for a long-drawn-out dinner or a takeaway before trotting back to your pitch. Choose a suitable spot to stretch out and unwind – there are plenty of such spots, with the added bonus of some rather fab views over the Lac de Montréal and to the hills behind. Fishing is available between March and September, so perhaps you could muster up enough energy to cast a rod into the lake and attempt to entice some trout, roach, pike or carp to take a bite (fishing licences are needed but they can be bought on site). If you’re feeling rather more active, you could slip into the lake’s waters for a swim or seek out more swimming at the open-air pool. Out of the water, tennis, basketball, volleyball and a playground are all on site too.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: The warm welcome of the owner during the bad weather;-) We could stay on the tarmac in front of the facilities. The facilities where the best we had during our 2 months roadtrip through Spain and Portugal. Facilities were designed as a 'brocante' with nice music and a nice temperature. We loved it!

Disliked: The weather, but that is not to blame to the owner.

Electric optional grass pitch (lake view)

Liked: Really lovely welcoming site owners (one english and her husband american!), both really helpful and could not do enough to help. The weather was poor to say the least when we arrived but rather than site us on a grass pitch and inevitably allow us to get bogged down, we were able to sit next to a closed shower block on hard standing, this allowing us to get off with no issues. The pitches overlook a lovely lake and the local town is quaint to walk around. It has a small supermarket and apparently a bar opens as and when the owner can be bothered! He couldn't during our stay!!

Disliked: Poor weather but this is no reflection on lovely site!

Electric optional grass pitch (lake view)

Liked: Cleanliness of site, toilet block is immaculate. Lots of hot water and good sized showers. Pitches are a good size with fabulous views over the lake. Staff are very friendly. Good restaurant on site, serving a variety of food.

Disliked: Wifi is not good and if it is important to be connected then this would need to be considered.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Absolutely beautiful place situated just outside St Germain Les Belles The host were amazing, very helpful The sanitaries were clean and showers were lovely and warm. There was also a hairdryer available which was a nice touch. The site had an amazing bar and restaurant on site. The food was outstanding, My partner very much enjoyed a taco pizza - he called it a revelation in pizza form! So dog friendly too! The owners dog was so gentle with our puppy, even when our puppy got over excited and wanted to play! Definitely a place to come back to.

Disliked: Absolutely nothing..... beautiful place.

Local attractions

The Millevaches en Limousin Regional Natural Park is the place for rural ramblings, half an hour's drive away. Walk to a waterfall, take one of the themed discovery walks, rent mountain bikes or head to Eymoutiers to hire canoes or kayaks for trips on the Vienne river. Around half an hour away is Reynou zoo park, where five kilometres of paths run through a 100-hectare site, giving you the chance to see animals such as giraffes and lions up close, all in the grounds of a 19th-century château. For a château of a different variety, take the half-hour drive to Château de Châlucet, a medieval pile at the top of a hill (take decent shoes for the hike up). Also around half an hour’s drive from the site is the town of Limoges, famed for its porcelain production – you can still visit porcelain shops here as well as seeing an ancient kiln next to the riverside path.
