Ah, les beautiful Vosges… If you've never been around the low mountain range near the France/Germany border, aller there with some immediacy, as this region has pretty much everything: lakes, waterfalls, rivers, forests and – mais oui – mountains, making it a topping pick for nature spotters and sporty sorts. Right in the region and only 10 minutes from the town, lake and skiing of Gérardmer is Camping au Mica a friendly and outgoing campsite with direct access to its local river and the beach. It has a good range of facilities and amenities including free wifi, a play area, and a launderette with coin-operated washing machines. Two shower and toilet blocks are also on site. Camping au Mica has a snack bar open in high season and serving quick bites and traditional snacks. Also in high season, a kids' club is organised by the site team.

Next up, make the 10-minute journey to the traditional village of Gérardmer, with its lake, ski resort and casino, and/or to one or both of the nature parks in the Vosges, the Ballons des Vosges Nature Park and the Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park. The Palatinate Forest Nature Park is just over the border in Germany.
