  • Midi-Pyrénées site between woodland and sunflower fields
  • Just under an hour's drive from Toulouse
  • Pool, paddling pool, sun terrace and bar on site
Pitch among the trees in the Midi-Pyrénées? (Un poem.) In the south of France countryside between woodland and fields filled with sunflowers – but only a 55-minute drive from city days out at terrific Toulouse? Enter: Country Camping in the Haute-Garonne’s Gaillac-Toulza, a small, remote site fab for quiet getaways. Guests should be pretty pleased with what’s on offer here to help them soak up the south of France sun: a big swimming pool overlooking a decked sun terrace, a sports pitch, pétanque area and a play area to keep the kids busy. And if one gets a bit too frazzled from the sun, retreat indoors to the billiards and children’s games of the games room, or to watch a bit of French telly and have a chat at the bar. There are hammocks around the site's fruit trees, where guests are also welcome to relax. Family-friendly events like treasure hunts, children’s activities and sports tournaments run from July to the start of September. And if you'd like to leave the car and take a half an hour train ride to somewhere else in Toulouse has to offer, the Gare de Cintegabelle train station is handily a 15-minute drive away from the site.

Liked: We loved this site and we will certainly be back again next year. Mark was super friendly, very knowledgeable and he checked in with us to make sure we had everything that we needed. Peaceful location with a lovely pool which also has a great view of the mountains. There is a wooded area that you can walk through and if you are lucky you will see the resident deers and I also saw a Pine Martin which was really exciting as I’d never seen one before and I managed to capture it on video. Whilst walking through the woods, be sure to try the plums, which were super tasty (August).

Disliked: Make sure you have mosquito repellent, we had some with us so this was not really a problem.

Liked: A Rustic Retreat with a Personal Touch - Country Camping Delivers a Charming Getaway My recent excursion to Country Camping, situated in the tranquil embrace of the French countryside, was an enchanting escape that left me feeling rejuvenated and connected to nature. Under the new ownership of Mark and Len, this campsite is blossoming into a unique haven that combines the best of camping and a personalized bed-and-breakfast experience. From the moment of our arrival, Mark and Len's genuine hospitality embraced us, creating an atmosphere of warmth and relaxation. Their background in the hospitality industry, evident in every detail, transformed our stay into a truly enjoyable retreat. As the campsite's restoration unfolds, it's easy to see the potential it holds. Mark's personal tour of the grounds highlighted their dedication and passion for creating a special haven. His thoughtful gesture of hand-picking fresh fruits from the garden for breakfast added an authentic and flavorful touch to our mornings. One of the highlights of our stay was the breakfast served on the terrace, elevating the experience from a regular camping trip to a delightful "camp & breakfast" adventure. This personalized touch allowed us to savor our morning meal while immersing ourselves in the natural beauty that surrounds the campsite. The campsite's idyllic location offered a serene backdrop for our escape. The well-maintained facilities provided a comfortable and inviting environment. Despite some inclement weather, the pool provided a refreshing escape, enhancing our overall enjoyment. While our time at Country Camping was nearly perfect, it's worth noting that limited cellphone service and intermittent WiFi connectivity were minor inconveniences. However, these brief interruptions only encouraged a deeper connection with the peaceful surroundings. In summary, Country Camping offers a charming blend of rustic camping and personalized hospitality. Mark and Len's dedication to enhancing the camping experience shines through, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a tranquil and unique getaway. With a heart full of appreciation, I eagerly anticipate returning to witness the ongoing transformation of this delightful retreat. A resounding five-star recommendation for anyone in search of a serene and personalized escape. Ben & Jamie

Liked: The site is fantastically run and the pitch are brilliantly spaced out. The cleanliness is unbelievable and the pub is run by a very helpful, friendly and attentive bar named Dave. We will definitely be back.. The tourists staying on the site were unbelievable friendly, helpful and it was a joy to have stayed there. We shall be back next year.

Disliked: No food provided due to Covid but hopefully food will be back on the menu

Electric optional grass campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The staff were very welcoming and informative on arrival. The pitches were spacious with electric hookup and several water points. We did see the bar and pool both of which looked nice although we didn’t go in as we needed to continue our journey so only stayed one night. The showers and toilets were clean and had soap and toilet roll. The site was peaceful, quiet and well maintained.

Disliked: Nothing 😊

Local attractions

What a gorgeous area this is, filled with mornings and afternoons out strolling and cycling, horse riding and fishing, sporting about in water or pottering around the region’s market towns… If you’re taking to the car for day trips, some of the best sights in the Midi-Pyrénées are easily accessible – Toulouse, the Pyrenees, the tiny sovereign state of Andorra… The rural region around Gaillac-Toulza village has peaceful activities all over, starting with a mooch around the nearby market towns of Carbonne (market day on Thursday), Auterive (market every Friday), Carla-Bayle (Sundays), Saint-Ybars (fourth Wednesday of the month) and Lezat (second Wednesday of the month). Theatre buffs will be in heaven, darling, with Country Camping’s closeness to the Midi-Pyrenees’s theatre districts of Place Wilson, Place du Capitole and Place St Sernin, all in the Haute-Garonne’s and the Midi-Pyrénées's magnifique capital Toulouse. If you’re seeking more active options, slope along to the Pyrenees to ski or mountaineer in autumn or cycle/hike around its four national parks in spring and summer.
