General
- Friendly Lot site beside the Quercy waterpark in Souillac
- A 500-metre walk from a riverside beach and canoe hire on the Dordogne
- Fishing, playground, bouncy castle, summer snack bar and pool
Imagine for a minute the look on your tiddlers’ faces as the realisation dawns that you’ve booked a place right next door to a fab waterpark... and then follow that up with further eye-widening at the sight of a river beach, kayaks to hire and an adventure park within a short stroll...
Bring that scene to life at Camping Les Ondines, a friendly site on the banks of the Dordogne and a 10-minute trot from the centre of the Lot region town of Souillac. It’s not all about easy access to nearby attractions though – there’s plenty on offer on site as well, including a heated outdoor pool, playground, bouncy castle and games of pétanque or table tennis.
Swing by in the summer months and you’ll find the place buzzing: a kids’ club runs five days a week throughout high season, and there’s a busy schedule of games and activities for teens and adults too (although you’d be equally welcome to slope off to one of the site’s fishing spots for some quiet time). Evening entertainment is for all, with a family-friendly vibe running through the quizzes, discos, karaoke nights and the like.
A snack bar serves up light meals and has essential groceries in stock through the summer; at other times and for a wider range of foodie foraging it’s only a few minutes’ stroll into town for restaurants, bakeries and a supermarket.

Local attractions
It’s not just les enfants that’ll be chuffed to see attractions close by; folk who’ve had a lengthy drive will also likely appreciate the ability to leave the car behind for a while.
Quercyland waterpark, a huge tangle of waterslides and five pools, is a mere couple of minutes’ stroll away, or you may choose to wander to the FanZone adventure park for treetop trails, bungee trampolines and other kid-friendly antics.
Fancy roaming just a little further (but still sans driving)? Bike hire is a couple of minutes away, as is a kayak rental service for days out on the Dordogne. There’s a horse riding centre 15 minutes’ walk from base, or you may opt to take it easy on the river beach about the same distance away.
If you’re up for a bit of a drive, the pretty medieval village of Rocamadour is about half an hour away. Entice the kids up the 216 steps of the Grand Escalier monumental staircase with the promise of a trip to Monkey Forest, just outside town, to walk among the free-roaming Barbary macaques. The underground tours of Gouffre de Padirac are about 40 minutes away, and there are plenty of walks to be had in the surrounding Causses du Quercy Regional Natural Park.
