Are you up for a stay in viewsome Vendée countryside, among many activities of water and land, but in a peaceful setting away from thronging crowds? Small and friendly Camping La Loire Fleurie should fit the bill: it's seven kilometres from the beaut sand beaches and watersports of Saint-Jean-de-Monts, near Île de Noirmoutier and the Île d'Yeu, and close to landlubbers' activities such as tennis, bowling, golf and shinning up trees. Its pitches are placed in a huge meadow, giving plenty of room among its poplars. La Loire Fleurie has modern and comfy amenities including showers, toilet blocks and a launderette; there's also free wifi. Bike hire is available and cycle trails are lined along the site for peaceful pedals on days you aren't off out exploring. Nearby Saint-Jean-de-Monts is filled with supermarkets, bars and several decent restaurants dishing up trad Vendée cuisine: do be sure to have a hunk of the local jambon vendéen…

Liked: Pitch size. Small site vibe. Remote location but close to cycle network. Shared barbecue. Beautiful plants and biodiversity. Good value.

Disliked: Could do with some extra loos and showers when the site is full. But this is only a minor criticism and we were happy to queue for a few minutes. Wi-Fi and phone signal are poor - but this does give an opportunity for digital detox,

Liked: Host were so lovely. Easy check in. Great size pitch with good electric hook-up. Extremely clean showers & toilets with decent hot water & pressure. Kids play equipment including trampoline. Easy & convenient location. Flat pitches. Really close to local towns with plenty of shops & seafront. All round excellent trip. Highly recommend.

Liked: A very basic camp site with a lot of options for ie, tents, mobile homes, caravans or use their cabins. Basically will suit everyone. The toilets and wash areas were cleaned on a regular basis but there are only a few toilets and showers so in a busy period there could be a wait. The owners were very friendly and eager to answer any questions even though I was using the "Say Hi" app to translate my English to French which didnt always work. We wanted a nice quiet site and that is what we found being the end of August/September.

Disliked: Nothing.

Local attractions

A short drive from Camping La Loire Fleurie will take you to a smashing stretch of the Vendée coast, to the seaside town of Saint-Jean-de-Monts and the Île d'Yeu off its shore. Separate days out at each should be had: Saint-Jean-de-Monts has a spectacular eight-kilometre run of beach and a newly restored seafront etched with footpaths and cycle trails, while the island's four by eight kilometres can be traversed by foot or pedal with many stops at the viewpoints of the rocky southern coast along the way. Scuba diving, swimming, windsurfing and other watery sports are popular picks along the coast here too. Also get to Île de Noirmoutier, the island with a twelfth-century castle surrounded by defensive walls, and the Le Gois causeway, an excellently alternative way to get ashore via its three kilometres of cobbled path. This area is also biking land: Noirmoutier is the start of the mammoth Sentiers Cyclables de la Vendée cycle paths, stretching all the way south past Saint Gilles Croix de Vie.

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Dogs

A valid vaccination certificate must accompany your dog.
Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
Guide dogs are allowed on site free of charge.
