  • Between sea and forest, 800 metres from the beach
  • Huge waterpark with sprinkler area and 13 waterslides
  • Indoor pools, Jacuzzi, sauna, hammam, fitness centre and bike hire
That's a rather marvellous waterpark at Camping Club Les Brunelles. Quite a marvellous waterpark indeed, in fact, where you – and the kids – can get as active or as relaxed as you like all the day long. The Brunelles owners rightly point out that theirs is a site for watery times of all sorts throughout all seasons: as well as the waterpark, a beach awaits 800 metres away, directly accessible via a forest path. A Jacuzzi, sauna and hammam are on site for more serene times, there's a covered pool and a paddling pool with toys, and the 1200m² outdoor waterpark has a generous 13 waterslides, including nine for grownups in the famed Space Hole. (Too much action? The Zen pool is your watery spot.) A new 500m² outdoor sprinkler area was added in 2018. Leisure options are abundant away from the water too at this big and well-appointed family park: guests can hire bikes for pedals through forest and along coast; keep their bods looking trim at the fitness centre; hit balls around on the tennis or pétanque courts, or retreat indoors to cool times at the games room. A kids' club, teens' club and evening entertainment all run in summer. And just where is this wondrous watery base? Les Brunelles is between sea and forest on the Vendée coast, a few kilometres from the seaside resort of Longeville-sur-Mer and about 40 minutes' drive from Les Sables-d'Olonne. La Rochelle is within an hour and 15 minutes' drive – or you could stick close to your watery base to try out the local swimming, sailing, fishing and surfing... or hiking and boating around the spectacular Marais Poitevin regional park.

Local attractions

A shaded and sandy path runs for the 800 metres from the site to the beach, via the Longeville forest path. It's easily accessible to most, but taking the road instead is recommended if you're off to the beach with a pushchair. Sandy times are all around this Vendée coast setting, including local town Longeville-sur-Mer four kilometres away, Jard-sur-mer within five kilometres away and Talmont-Saint-Hilaire within 13. Famed seaside resort Les Sables d'Olonne is a definite must, for its three-kilometre beach, handsomely colourful marina, zoo and its thalassotherapy centre for those seeking yet more spa days. Other options include golfing at Olonne-sur-mer or rambling around the Roman town of Luçon, each within half an hour, or taking a day trip to the historical theme park of Puy du Fou, just over an hour from the site.
