General
- Family-friendly site three kilometres from Saint Gilles Croix de Vie
- Indoor and outdoor swimming pools; 10 minutes' walk from the beach
- Activities and entertainment for all ages during high season
Who wants to spend a goodly chunk of their Vendée days in the car? Not the folk at Camping Les Cyprès, that’s for sure – that’s why they’ve picked a handy location for easy getting about on bikes or on foot.
From this family-friendly site in a cypress forest (hence the name) quiet paths spread forth to give easy access to all sorts of attractions and amenities: sandy La Jaunay beach is a few minutes away, as is a canoe hire place and a riding stables, and it’ll only take you 20 minutes or so to pedal to Saint Gilles Croix de Vie for restaurants, shops, watersports and boat trips. Haven’t brought your bike? No problem – you can hire them on site, with kit available for transporting grownups, kids and tinies.
Another way to take a break from driving is to stick around on site, and that’s also an enticing option here: warm up with a morning aqua gym class, then spend days splashing around in the indoor or outdoor pools, playing table tennis, soaking in the Jacuzzi or joining games of volleyball or football. A kids’ club runs for a couple of hours on summer holiday mornings, and there’s a playground and bouncy castle to keep them busy at other times.
It’s a doddle to get to the local restaurants and supermarkets, but if you don’t fancy the trip, the site’s own shop and snack bar can sort you with meals, drinks, ice creams, fresh bread and other groceries.

Two-wheeled travel is king here, with around 450 kilometres of cycle paths crisscrossing the Vendée region making it an excellent area even for less experienced bike handlers. Pedal your way around the salt marshes close by, down to the beach or along to the riding stables and canoe centre if you fancy a different way to see the scenery.
Pedal off to Saint Gilles Croix de Vie (20 minutes) to hit the water too: this is the place for surf lessons, scuba diving, windsurfing and boat trips to the island of Yeu (bring your bikes along for the ride on this day out, as the island’s another fab place for cycling).
Of course, there are times when a car is a handy thing: perhaps for the 20-minute drive to Atlantic Toboggan waterpark, the 45-minute jaunt to Noirmoutier island or the hour-long journey to Puy du Fou theme park.
