  • Family-friendly site on four hectares of hills and woodland
  • A five-minute drive from Veillon beach: free shuttle bus in summer
  • Indoor pool, playground, aqua aerobics, sports field and restaurant
Sands and sea close by, and woodland all around… what a heavenly spot. Plonk yourself at Camping Le Paradis, close to the stunning Vendée coast, for this and more on a family park crammed with facilities for all ages. But those sands first… Le Paradis is on France’s Pays de la Loire coastline, outside the resort town of Talmont Saint Hilaire and under five kilometres from golden Veillon beach. Les Sables-d'Olonne is 25 minutes’ drive away, and the Vendée area has over 250 kilometres of protected and peaceful coastline, including around 140 kilometres of sandy beach (if you don’t find a suitable spot here, you may surmise that you won’t anywhere…) The site covers four hectares of woodland and hills, for shaded and non-crowded countryside days in between times at the seaside. For those days on site, be as active or as idle as you like, with morning aqua aerobics to kick off a busy day, then sessions of basketball, volleyball, football and handball on the multisports field… and then perhaps hiring a bike for pedals in the site surrounds? Kids have a playground to keep them busy, alongside a paddling pool indoors by the main heated pool, both open in summer. The warmer months also see the opening of the restaurant and grocery shop if you really don’t want to leave the site… but it’s much recommended at some point to hail the free site shuttle bus along to Veillon beach, and from there wander to Bourgenay for waterside restaurants.

Local attractions

It’s not just beaches that are a prime pull in the Vendée, as this part of France is a fine nature-spotting and birdwatching spot, with over 100 protected areas covering more than 2,000 hectares. Set out with your binoculars to see what you can see, or make sure of sightings with trips to the aquariums at Talmont Saint Hilaire and Les Sables-d'Olonne. Ask the friendly team for their tips on the top things to see and do nearby: particularly recommended are the waterfront 18-hole golf courses and pitch and putt at Port Bourgenay (five minutes’ drive from the site), potters around handsome Bourgenay harbour (also five minutes), and a day at the Château des Aventuriers theme park (15 minutes). Getting even more active, there’s jetskiing and sailing to tackle, 450 kilometres of bike paths to pedal, and several riding centres in Sables-d'Olonne (15 minutes). Famed tourist destinations for day trips include birdwatching and boating in the Marais Poitevin Regional Nature Park (30 minutes), city days in Nantes or La Rochelle (both an hour and 25 minutes) and a trip to France’s historical theme park Puy du Fou, just over an hour away.

Disliked: The site promised motorhome pitch and electric hook up yet when attained they gave us a field and the electric hook up was an battered extension cord - they had no converters for our U.K. plug so we had to go spend money buying one from expensive nearby supermarket well it was 5miles away then we plugged and three other camper vans!! Then the rain started and it blew it blew our van electrics too death trap we have reported it to two health and safety consultants that state this is against EU health and safety regulations and they will be reporting the site for the incident - the extension lead wasn’t covered despite weather and the staff despite informing them requesting help didn’t help didn’t sort it left us roaming around the dirty field looking for him up which was busy and we had to pay extra for this and the showers well they are dirty and you have guests having sex in the showers whisky you in there I would say this site definitely I wouldn’t take my children to! We paid via pitch up full amount for the site pitch up took the full payment out my bank when booing and we require full refund and the health and safety consultants are now taking this further regarding the sites lack of health and safety

Liked: spectacle cabaret du 16 au soir. Personnel sympathique.

Disliked: We was sold a pitch with electric hook up when got there it was field with extension lead for hook up with many other vehicles - against European health and safety regulations the extension lead was battered and not covered from the rain. It blew in the rain leaving us and other camper vans with no electric yet we had paid for it - we could t enjoy our stay having to locate electric hook up which we had paid extra for upfront via pitch up and not received even cost us €12 for an plug adaptor to plug into french socket for the extension lead. Cost us fuel and time to go locate it too. When the electric blew it blew our van sockets very dangerous and when told no one came to sort it when told pitch up they asked them also to come and talk to us and resolve it they didn’t the staff didn’t care and went against European health and safety regulations which could have caused a serious accident. We have asked pitch up for full refund as our stay in south west France was ruined for two days due to this and pitch up was the operator that took the payment which we want full refund.

Electric optional grass and earth touring pitch

Liked: The pool was fun for my son (7) and had a lifeguard. Bouncy castle in open camp area was a nice touch.

Disliked: Booked a private hedged pitch with electrical hookup. Waited ages at reception for check in. The pitch we were given was already occupied, so we were moved to an open rough grass area, on a slope without hookup. Pleasant but noisy shouty teens up past midnight in tents all round. No apologies from indifferent staff for the cock up. Just shrugs.
