Relax by the pool (added by manager 02 Sep 2022)
Plenty of space (added by manager 02 sep 2022)
The thouet river, less than five minutes' walk away (added by manager 23 dec 2015)
Lots of greenery (added by manager 23 dec 2015)

  • Peaceful site five minutes' stroll from the banks of the Thouet river
  • Within an hour of vineyards, theme parks and Loire valley châteaux
  • Swimming pool, games room, bar, bistro and wine tastings
At Camping de Courte Vallée, the valley may be short, but you won’t want your stay to be… The family-friendly site is less than five minutes’ drive from the centre of Airvault, a small town in the Deux-Sèvres department of Poitou-Charentes, and is a top jumping off point for lengthy explores, beaux cháteaux and having a tipple or two. This is a pretty part of France, so don’t leave it unexplored: the Thouet river is within five minutes’ stroll of the site, so take to the water on kayaks and canoes or keep to the banks for riverside wanders with your dog. If you fancy lengthier rambles, the long-distance GR 36 walking route passes right by the site entrance. Days on site might include a slow-paced game of pétanque, some overly intense table tennis (it’s a serious sport), sloshy wine tastings and vineyard tours, and a splashy dip or leisurely float in the pool. There’s an on-site bistro to deal with any hungry times, or you can stop by at the grocery shop for supplies to get a barbecue going if you prefer to cook for yourself (don’t forget to order some fresh bread for the morning). Once you’ve worked up a thirst, toddle over to the bar for beer, wine or sobering coffee. Before you leave, be sure to venture into Airvault to try some goat's cheese – it's a local delicacy…

Fully-serviced grass pitch

Liked: Such a welcoming and friendly site. Jayne and James could not do anymore for us, they were so accommodating…and we booked an hour before we arrived due to a change in plans. Beautiful and charming site, clean and tidy and lovely hot showers! Lovely food. Very family friendly, the kids loved the pool and the games room. Jayne also advised us on a walk which very beautiful and captured everything we wanted to see. If we could have stayed longer we would have. We will definitely be visiting again and would highly recommend this site! ❤️

Fully-serviced grass pitch

Liked: Friendly hosts, space and pitches. Bar and food

Disliked: Limited shower/toilet facilities would be an issue at a busier time. WiFi could not reach our pitch

From the manager: Thank you for your review we are glad you enjoyed our campsite. We have 2 shower blocks with a total of 12 showers (including 3 handicap facilities) to serve 65 pitches. We were completely full in July for a festival and it didn't really cause an issue then. We have an ongoing issue with the internet as it keeps dropping out intermittently. We have contacted our supplier who is looking into the problem and monitoring the line.

Well organised site, good hosts and a nice pool. Will visit again,…

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Spacious pitches, swimming pool, table tennis area, playing area, child friendly, a code to get in and out of the campsite, visiting attractions nearby, friendly staff.

Disliked: No toilet paper in the toilets for two days, best to bring your own

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed our campsite. Some toilets have the central feed toilet roll system, this could have been when we were waiting for a delivery which are notoriously slow at this time of year .

Fully-serviced grass pitch

Liked: This was our second visit to this site and we will definitely be returning again. The pitches are a good size and well maintained - as is the rest of the site. The shower block was lovely and clean with plenty of hot water! James & Jayne were very welcoming and always around should you need anything (like another drink in the friendly bar/restaurant)

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Very lovely campsite, toilets super nice and clean. Bistro was a life saver as we were caught out by a bank holiday and didn’t have any food. Pool area was nice and clean too. Lovely and quiet.

Disliked: Booked last min as we were struggling to find somewhere. Unfortunately left early as everything was so far away so it was better for us to carry on our journey up north to see more of France. Not at the fault of the campsite, but just to keep in mind if you’re planning to stay a while, you’ll have to drive at least 40 mins to everything. Unfortunately also weren’t able to get a refund as we booked through pitchup.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, we respond as follows. We are a bit surprised that you have given us 1 out of 5 for location as you told us that you were travelling to Northern France and your next stop was Le Mans so effectively we were on your route. Unfortunately you did decide to cut your original 4 night stay to 2 nights, at first you told us that you were going to cut it short by 1 night. However, you went on to tell us that you wanted to visit Saumur which is about 40 minutes away. You went on to tell us that because of the cost of fuel and that Saumur is on the way to Le Mans that you would only stay 2 nights instead of the 4 that you booked. Please see below Pitchups policy Cancelling or amending a booking If you wish to modify or cancel your booking prior to your arrival date, please contact the campsite provider direct. If you cancel or amend your booking, you may forfeit your deposit and there may be a cancellation charge or amendment fee levied by the accommodation or other service provider. In any event, if you fail to cancel or amend your booking in accordance with the provider’s cancellation or amendment policy, you may be charged a cancellation or amendment fee by the accommodation or other service provider. Further details of the cancellation policy are set out in our email to you confirming your booking and are also shown on the campsite’s detail page prior to you making a booking. Please see below our own policy Cancellations I Amendments A minimum of 14 days notice in advance of arrival date will be required from anyone wishing to cancel their booking. If more than 14 days notice is given, the booking may be re-arranged to another available date within the season or alternatively a refund can be given, minus a £5.00 administration charge. Cancellations within 14 days of customer's arrival date will result in deposit being forfeit. Refunds cannot be made for any amendments made to the booking on arrival or during stay. We are not really sure what you mean by everything is 40 minutes away, I think you mean that everything you wanted to see was 40 minutes away, as we did explain France is a big country.

Local attractions

If castles drew you here, get set to be busy: the stunning Château d’Oiron and its contemporary art collection are 20 minutes’ drive from the site and the spectacular châteaux of the Loire Valley are within easy reach. There are lots of jewels in that particular crown, but if you can only get to a handful, Brissac, Brézé and the hulking Château d’Angers are musts within an hour and a half. Ease your way from castles to vineyards 40 minutes away at Château de Montreuil-Bellay, where you can explore the castle before nipping into the shop for tastings. Venture on to 10 kilometres of underground cellars at the Cave des Vignerons de Saumurs, then make your way to Angers for samplings of Cointreau. Kids won't get involved with these detailed discussions of grape varieties, so keep them happy at nearby theme parks and activity parks: the multimedia Futuroscope, the ever-popular Puy de Fou and the treetop adventures of Parc Aventure 79 are within about an hour, or they can talk with the animals at Vallée des Singes or Bioparc de Doué-la-Fontaine zoo. For some family time in the open air, make the journey to Green Venice for leafy waterways and gondola trips, or stick a little closer to base to poke around scenic Thouars and Parthenay.
