  • Sheltered Ardèche Verte grass pitches in the Doux Valley
  • A 15-minute drive to Syrah vineyards; Safari de Peaugres zoo 35 mins
  • Pool, restaurant and high-season entertainment; direct river access
High on the idea of mountain views? Perhaps gorgeous gorges or sloping vineyards and fine wine? A family site in a riverside location in the Doux Valley, Camping les Foulons is a little pocket in the Ardèche Verte with mountain views all around, and hiking, cycling and horse riding nearby. They’re big on family here, as much of the action revolves around the swimming pool and sun deck by day. An entertainment and activities team is also on hand to keep you all on your toes with antics ranging from water aerobics to kids’ drawing competitions. Younger children can let off steam at the playground, or play ping pong and table football in the games room. There’s a volleyball court, football pitch and a bowling green too for alternative competitions. The action doesn’t stop at nightfall, either. In high season, there are regular musical evenings, karaoke spots and board-game evenings or you can join in canoeing races in the pool. Wine fans, here’s the thing – the food is great here, and the wine too, sourced from local vineyards in the Rhône valley. You might like to sample picodon (a local goat's cheese speciality), together with chestnut cream… and what better way to wash it all down than with a glass of house wine? Bonuses that add ease to your family holiday include a laundry room, a parent-baby washroom in the shower block, and a well-stocked shop on site for picking up bits and bobs if you don’t fancy eating in the bar.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked: Restaurant and pool. Location. Friendly staff.

Disliked: Small pitches. We only stayed one night and so did our daughter in her caravan. We wouldn’t have had room to put up an awning if staying longer

Electric optional hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked: We had a lovely pitch under a tree with views out onto the riverbed! Very clean showers and toilets and good bar next to the swimming pool. Staff super friendly and spoke good English.

Disliked: Pool was crazy busy all the time with families (high season) and played noisy music all day long.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked: Lovely clean and well kept site. Great facilities, welcoming hosts. Nice bar and perfect menu- food was fabulous. Cheese and charcuterie guy visited the site one evening ! The site is perfectly located next to the river. There is a historic steam train close by that does a lovely trip through the river gorge. 5 minutes from the quaint old village of Tournon Sue Rhône. So much to do there😍

Local attractions

If you’re a sucker for some spectacular scenery, there are several ways to take in the views. While there are hiking and cycling trails directly from the site, and you can find fishing (15 minutes’ drive) or horse riding (five minutes) nearby, the narrow gauge railway at Train de l’Ardèche (five minutes’ drive) is an easy way to admire passing gorges. Other scenic areas include the steep slopes at Gorges de la Vallée du Doux (an hour and 45 minutes), the prehistoric paintings in the Chauvet Cave (an hour and 45 minutes) or the natural bridge across the Ardèche river at Pont d’Arc (an hour and 45 minutes). You may agree that the animal world is rather attractive too. If so, head to Safari de Peaugres (35 minutes) for a drive-through zoo and aquarium with animals such as zebras and bears. On the flip side, Tournon-sur-Rhône (45 minutes) wows with its castles, vineyards and footbridge. Secretly something of a wine connoisseur? Put the local wines to the test with a tour around the vineyard Terres de Syrah (15 minutes). If you’re particularly interested in the art of alcohol, there’s a heritage brewery at Musée de L’alambic, Les Prés (half an hour) too.
