  • Treks starting from the site: guided hikes available
  • Pool, volleyball court, playground and bouncy castle
What a pretty pool… against a pretty sunset, in a mighty pretty setting in a nature haven in the French Prealps. The sunrises from Camping Le Gallo Romain are pretty spectacular too if you’re energetic enough to leap out of bed first thing while staying here – which of course you will be, for have you seen this scenery…? Your handsome locale is high up at an altitude of 500 metres, at the foot of Vercors mountain in the Drôme des Collines region, just outside Barbières. Nature treks and peaceful wanders are around this wild and protected part of the Rhône-Alpes, including many starting straight from the site: set out on your own, or go along with an expert guide on foot or in a sturdy all-terrain vehicle. As they’re a thoughtful lot who are keen to ensure y’all get the most out of your hol, the Camping Le Gallo Romain team arranges regular activities and excursions from the site to popular local destinations (extra charges may apply). Walking tours and theme evenings run in spring and autumn. July and August sees activities such as tournaments and mini discos for minis aged three to 12, while music evenings, bingo, sports tournaments and aqua gym sessions are laid on for the grownups. But you might prefer to stay around the pool area instead, for dips and sunbathing sessions in its central setting among these spectacular mountain views... Other leisurely facilities laid on by the thoughtful team include table tennis table, a pétanque area, volleyball court, and a playground and bouncy castle for your mini royals.

Electric optional grass pitch

Local attractions

A trip to the splendid waterfall of Les Chutes de la Druise is highly recommended to start your sightseeing off, in a setting of limestone cliffs, raptors and wildlife in the stunning Gorges d'Ombleze. Reach it within 50 minutes’ drive via the D70 and D101, and then via a pathway from Ansage. Another must-see is the Choranche caves, where adventurers will clamber past stalagmites, rivers and a green lake, to reach a light show in the mammoth cathedral hall. Above ground and for the active, canyoning, canoeing, rock climbing and horse riding are all available nearby. By foot or bike from the site, explore the forests around the Sambie Pass and the pastures near Artailles or Blaches for yet more spectacular scenery; by car, drive to the Bourne gorges an hour away, stopping off for the vistas of steep cliffs from the road between Pont-en-Royans and Villard-de-Lans.
