  • Surrounded by lavender fields, vineyards and orchards
  • Within easy reach of lots of climbing spots and mountain bike trails
  • Outdoor pool and splendid terrace restaurant with takeaway wine
Somewhat partial to evening sits and sips on a scenic restaurant terrace? How about a location providing outdoorsy options of all sorts, including mountain biking, climbing, paragliding and horse riding? And to top it all off, might you add in a spectacularly setting in a quiet valley among lavender fields, orchards and olive groves in the Baronnies Provençales Regional Nature Park? Most fortunately for those to whom all this appeals, Camping Le Moulin de Cost’s got all this and then some sorted. Three kilometres from the vineyards and fab night markets of Buis-les-Baronnies, Moulin de Cost’s facilities and spacious accommodation areas are set across a meticulously manicured 10 hectares. It's bordered by the Derbous river where guests can cool off with a paddle or a swim; for those who prefer their splashing time to be around the comfort of a roomy pool and solarium, that’s sorted here too. Come lunch or supper time, meals of fresh local produce are served in generous amounts at the park’s terrace restaurant, all to be thoroughly savoured with regional wines and other tipples. And for times when a more casual dining approach calls, the takeaway service is open morning to night for eats ranging from ice creams, hot and cold drinks and local wines to savoury snacks like fries, salads and calamari. Those who find mornings taxing should also find they’re easily roused by the site’s bread and viennoiserie delivery service. Pétanque, volleyball, ping pong, a playground, a TV room and a free wifi service are all available on site.

Local attractions

Nearby, aim to aimlessly wander around the handsome old market town of Buis-les-Baronnies – visit the Old Town to cross its ancient Roman bridge, and be sure to raise your eyes skywards to spy 15th-century arches and a 16th-century convent. Among the outdoorsy options around Moulin de Cost, perhaps the most popular pursuit is climbing, with a dedicated school in Buis-les-Baronnies and plenty of other spectacular en plein air spots, such as those at Saint Julien, the Ubrieux Gorge and La Roche-sur-le-Buis (within 15 minutes’ drive), and Bellecombe-Tarendol, Mévouillon and Pelleret (within 45 minutes). For non-clamberers, other easily reachable activities include mountain biking and horseback hacks along marked tracks from Buis-les-Baronnies, or soaring sky high with paragliding flights from Mévouillon. Wine tours around the vineyards and wine cellars of Buis-les-Baronnies, Rochebrune and Sainte-Jalle come highly recommended as an off-site excursion option, or if you’re more of a shop until you drop sort, exploring the weekend flea markets at Jonquières, Carpentras, Mornas and Roussas are all tiptop picks within a short drive.
