  • Lakeside site surrounded by lavender fields and vineyards
  • Lake swimming, heated pool, spa and canoeing trips all available
  • Playground, games and restaurant/bar with terrace facing the lake
A lake – bien sûr (the name’s a bit of a giveaway on that front, n’est-çe-pas?). But also lavender fields, vineyards and the foothills of the Vercors Regional Natural Park – it’s quite the spectacular natural setting Camping Lac Bleu’s got going on. Scenic as it may be, the lake at this family-oriented Drôme site isn’t just for ogling. Nope, this is one where you can get stuck in, settling in for an afternoon of fishing or strolling over to the sandy beach area for a paddle or a swim. You can also nab canoes to paddle off to the further corners of the lake, and brush up your skills ahead of lengthier trips on the nearby Drôme river. Tad chilly for lake swims? There’s a handy Plan B in the form of a heated, covered pool, and plenty of land-based antics, including table tennis, volleyball, badminton and pétanque. And even the most demanding of nippers shouldn’t run out of things to do with a playground, bouncy castle and trampoline to scamper around, plus a sociable summertime programme of sports, crafts and shows. Dining’s been designed with their tastes in mind too – at the lakeside bar/restaurant there’s a special menu for smaller appetites, along with plenty of choices for more grownup tastes (cocktail list included). Other eats and drinks can be picked up at the shops, restaurants and wineries in Saint-Roman and Châtillon-en-Diois, both of which are about five minutes away by car.

Local attractions

Dust down those hiking boots or pump up your mountain bike tyres – there are more than 4,000 kilometres of trails to wend your way along around here. If you need a little helping hand, local guides can keep you on the designated path or lend you a horse or donkey to aid your expedition. Even with that back-up, you’ll probably struggle to get round the whole lot, so it’s worth taking advice from locals on some fave spots to head for: perhaps the prehistoric caves around Boulc (20 minutes’ drive) or the Sucettes de Borne limestone formations (half an hour). For a gentle stroll, wander through the medieval centre of Châtillon en Diois (five minutes), or head to La Ferme aux Papillons to flit through the fluttering butterflies. Something a bit more active? An activity centre five minutes’ drive away can hook you up with days of canoeing, canyoning, rafting, climbing and caving, and it’s a mere five-minute amble to your local adventure park to clamber across the canopy trails or shoot down the giant toboggan run.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: There is no working sanitary block at this site. We weren’t informed of this at check in (after queuing for 25mins to check in) I went to the sanitary block which was absolutely disgusting. See photos. When I returned to reception to ask about this I was told I should have been informed they had no facilities open (or even running water) and the reason I hadn’t been told was because I had booked and paid in full via pitch up which was my fault. I would have to go back to pitch up for a refund and something was mumbled about there being another site down the road. Do not stay here!! Awful customer service.
