  • Quiet rural site on the banks of the Verne river near Montrigaud
  • Restaurant, market, pool, playground and fishing
  • Excellent hikes and cycle trails nearby: bike hire available
Some splendid bike rides are around the Drôme site of Camping La Grivelière – how handy then that you can hire bikes on site and explore this riverside locale… If you're more of a hiker, a good heap of scenic rambles can be sorted too, both in the colourful lavender-filled countryside of the Drôme and within day trip distance 40 kilometres away in the Vercors Regional Natural Park (the park is a mountainous one, so the adventurous can tackle climbing and skiing there as well). Or you could just laze around close to the water: Camping La Grivelière is a quiet rural site on the banks of the Verne river, with plenty of space for fishing and several peaceful places to hide away for an afternoon. Or there's a pool and a paddling pool to dip into, a pétanque court to test your skills at, and a TV room if you fancy some lazy indoors time. A programme of activities and entertainment runs in summer. Camping La Grivelière is a couple of kilometres from the town of Montrigaud if you want to eat out in the evening; if not, there's a restaurant and takeaway on site, a mini market and gas cylinder sales. Barbecues are allowed.

Local attractions

If you're on holiday with kids, checking out the tree climbing, zorbing and trampolining of the Oasis adventure park (10 kilometres away) will likely be an early stop, along with a sweet day at the Cité du Chocolat Valrhona or a guided donkey ride day at Flachères, both about 30 kilometres from the site. A fably different option is the Palais Idéal du Facteur Cheval within 10 kilometres, a 'palace' made up of stones and rocks collected by a French postman over 33 years. (Joseph Ferdinand Cheval picked up an oddly-shaped rock on his postal route one day, became a tad fascinated by collecting similar stones, and started building them into a palace structure that ended up 23 metres high and crammed with pillars, buttresses and stone animals. It's a bit of a must.) Around the region, see the shoemaking town and International Shoe Museum at Romans-sur-Isère (20 kilometres), which displays hundreds of pairs of shoes made throughout centuries from around the world: yes, you can buy shoes galore in town too. You could also take a look at the colourful laser show of the Grotte de Choranche or have a peaceful time pottering around the Erik Borja Zen Garden, both 25 kilometres from the site. Within 40 kilometres, go to meet the 900+ strong menagerie at the Safari de Peaugres, the biggest animal park in the Rhône-Alpes, or venture to the Vercors Regional Natural Park, for days hiking, climbing and canyoning among its spectacular landscapes.
