La Danse des Papillons is a tranquil site surrounded by nature in Provence, an area famed for its lavender fields, historical villages and medieval monuments. The site is set across four hectares between a river, an ancient oak woodland and a wildflower meadow filled with primroses and violets during spring and daffodils, lilacs, elderflowers and wild orchids in the summer months. Large canvas tents are kitted out with comfy beds, duvets and a few items of furniture. Bed linen and towels are provided. Facilities include an outdoor pool and a summer kitchen, and guests can go fishing and swimming in the nearby river. Locally sourced organic bread, fruit, fruit juices, homemade jams and goat and sheep cheese are on the menu for breakfast – if you have any special dietary requirements, just let the site owners know and they'll to their very best to accommodate. In the spirit of eco harmony, wastewater is treated using a phyto (plant) purification system, and dry toilets are available for guests to use. Barbecues are allowed.

Local attractions

Several hikes through the surrounding countryside are available from the site, and you can head down to the river nearby to take the kids paddling, go swimming or do a spot of laid-back fishing. There are several weekly farmers' markets within easy reach including Dieulefit, on Friday mornings; Grignan, on Tuesday mornings; and Nyons, on Thursday mornings. Take your camera to snap some pics of authentic French rusticism, and pick yourself up local specialities like limes, olives, lavender sprigs and regional cheese and wine. Hop in the car for a short drive to Grignan to see its 16th-century Collegiate Church of the Holy Saviour and 12th-century fortress, Château de Grignan, where the Marquise de Sévigné once stayed with her daughter. Other excursions within easy reach by car include tours around Rocheville winery and olive oil farm in Nyons, tandem paraglider flights in Mevouillon, Upie Zoo and Lussas Animal Park.
