  • Snack bar with terrace, free wifi, food shop and TV room
Who's up for a hol in the Rhône Alpes? Scenically set in splendid countryside by a lake, beaches, a national park, the Route Napoléon and a whole heap of outdoor activities from surfing to mountain scaling? If this is you, get along to Camping Ser Sirant in the Isère department, spectacularly set among mountains, valleys and lake, close to Écrins National Park and with many walking and cycling routes starting straight from the site. Lazy or active days lakeside should be the order of the day when you first arrive: Ser Sirant is next to Laffery lake, a blue body of water framed by mountains and with a beach for placid days, or swimming, surfing, canoeing, kayaking and fishing for those feeling a tad more energetic. Either way, amble over to the site terrace for a sip or sup among first-rate views: this is the time to have a look at the site pics… Ser Sirant's cosy and modern facilities include a restaurant with that terrace, a food shop, free wifi, a TV room and a pétanque court. Barbecues and campfires are both allowed. There are also shower and toilet blocks, a launderette, a washing-up area and facilities for ice pack freezing.

Local attractions

Get climbing, walking, cycling or watersporting from here, among the mountains, local paths and Laffrey lake, or potter around the many local villages, cafés and bars sampling as much regional cuisine as is humanly poss. Winter sports are also a big draw in this region: Camping Ser Sirant's local commune of Saint-Theoffrey is about 22 kilometres from Grenoble, with several ski resorts in its nearby mountains and one of the major centres in the Alps for skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing. If you'd prefer to amble around in a cultured fashion rather than hurtle down mountains, Grenoble is also home to the famed Bastille, reached by the town's well-known cable cars and with tiptop views over the surrounding mountains. Other well-heeled options in town are the arty Museum of Grenoble, with over 900 exhibits, and the Municipal Library of Grenoble, with a collection of manuscripts by novelist Stendhal, who was born in the town.
