  • In the Vanoise National Park
  • Snack bar, games room and many sports activities available
  • Easy access to local ski slopes of Les Arcs
Who's up for some skiing in the spectacular French Alps? With easy access to the slopes of Les Arcs a mere two kilometres away – and with paragliding, canoeing and fishing among the other outdoor options all around the area? And the vista is pretty viewsome from here too… All this is at Camping Le Reclus, a family-friendly site in the Vanoise National Park between the Tarentaise and Maurienne valleys in the French Alps. It's a cinch to get to the slopes from here for skiing, as it's based at the foot of the funicular train to Les Arcs, with a free shuttle bus from the site to the train and to the chair lift of La Rosière. If sliding down slopes isn't your bag, the Séez setting of this scenic site is well placed for a good range of other options, including heaps of summer activities, wildlife watching at the national park, golfing, and town-hopping around Tignes, Beaufort and the Savoie department capital of Chambéry. The friendly team also organises plenty of activities for all ages in the summer months. Among the site facilities are a snack bar with terrace, a cosy communal room with board games and fireplace, a pétanque court, tennis courts, a play area and ping pong tables. Barbecues are allowed. Amenities include toilets and free hot showers, a launderette and a drying room, a bath and a washing-up area.

Electric optional grass pitch (no cars)

Liked: Trees, natural, calm and relaxed. Friendly staff and clean modern facilities. We were able to chose our own pitch. Lots to do in Bourg-Saint-Maurice, a short walk away (shops, restaurants and leisure activities). Great base for hiking, cycling, winter sports and more. We spent 10 days. Money off lift passes for three of the local ski areas.

Disliked: Reception was rarely manned, not even for the stated 2 hours in the morning and afternoon. Water for showers and dishwashing was at best tepid, but mostly cold. The free shuttle (as stated on the website) to the Funicular only runs from December to February- coming in April we either had a 25 min walk with our snowboards or expensive parking costs at the Finicular. The drying facilities for snow gear was limited to one drying rack in front of a barely warm radiator, not enough to dry it for the next day.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: This is a compact site with close pitches. Facilities were old but fine, clean and usable. Refreshments at snack shack were reasonably priced and very tasty. Good site before you drive or ride up the Petit St Bernard. Wi-Fi was located in the reception area.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Comfortable one-night stopover with good, clean facilities. Hot showers and refilling fresh water. Served our purpose mid-journey

Disliked: Arrived quite late so did not benefit from all the facilities. Expected the site to be more remote than it was, was in fact situated beside a main road. Nevertheless was a quiet stopover. Rather overpriced.

Yurt

Local attractions

Get ready to get active, for this is outdoor land all year round. In summer, take your pick from hiking and nature spotting in the national park, rafting, kayaking, paragliding, golfing, climbing and fishing nearby, and mountain biking or cycling around the biggest cols of the region at Iseran, Little Saint Bernard and the Cormet de Roselend. Skiing is available all around in winter (try Espace Killy, Paradiski and La Rosière, with its access to Thuile in Italy), or you could tackle other winter sports like snow scooter riding and heli-skiing. It's about 24 kilometres from Séez to Mont Blanc. Other options for non-active days are the nearby ski resort of Tignes and its traditional village of Les Brevieres; Le Monal, an ancient farming hamlet surrounded by larch forest, and buying bread at Séez's St Germain mill. At Chambéry, about 70 kilometres away, sunbathe in the fab Place Saint-Leger, surrounded by its tall houses all of different colours.
