They're foodie types at Camping Village Paestum on Italy's Cilento coast. The owners here have made it their mission to give guests as good a gourmet time as is humanly poss, saying – and jolly well quite rightly too – that good food is the stuff of which excellent Italian hols are made. The focus is on the quality, tradition and simplicity of Mediterranean cuisine here, meaning that good food is a given: the restaurant serves trad Italian dishes that often have a creative twist, as well as large wood-oven baked pizzas to have in the main dining hall or on the outdoor terrace. Celiacs, veggies, allergy-afflicted… the chef here has you covered. More? Tasty tasty snacks and cold cold drinks are available at the café bar, and there's also a beach kiosk for quick bites, out-of-hours snacks and aperitifs under the stars – oh sì, Camping Village Paestum is right by the beach too… When you need to burn off all the accumulated calories, head to the swimming pool or pétanque court, or join the regular entertainment and activities organised by a multilingual team: sports tournaments, aqua gym and dancing nights are all on offer. A kids' club and a teens club are also available during the main season. Facilities are well sorted too, with five amenities block with large free hot showers, toilets, washing-up corners and laundry sinks. The site also has a motorhome service point.

Liked: Il camping è molto tranquillo.

Disliked: Ci sarebbe bisogno di manutenzione per i bagni sia quelli per i campeggiatori che del ristorante. Peccato che il ristorante a settembre chiude e peccato che a settembre non c'è più l'animazione e nemmeno la navetta per andare al mare

Liked: Nothing! I would give this site 0 stars if possible!!!

Disliked: Very old, very dated and very run down!! Broken toilet blocks always dirty! Swimming pool was really dirty, shop hardly had any stock. Noise, people talking and parties all night long. Really would not recommend this site. Bright lights all night long as well! Was like sleeping in daylight. (Well if it was possible to sleep with all the noise…)

Liked: Friendly staff

Disliked: Facilities are very dated, the toilet and shower cubicles had no lights, toilet roll or soap for hand washing. The toilets areas either had a hole in the floor or a toilet with no seat, the facilities were not cleaned daily which was evident from the faeces around the toilets at some points. The noise levels were very high with no quiet time at about 2 am it started to get a little quieter.

Liked: Tolle Poolanlage!! Die Bademeister machen ihren Job hervorragend. Für den Strand muss man zwar nen Shuttlebus ( dauert 2 Minuten) nutzen, ist aber problemlos. Personal ist super freundlich!

Disliked: Sanitäranlagen. Der Campingplatz ist ziemlich abgelegen; rundherum gibt es nicht viel. WLAN gibt’s nur ums Restaurant.

When you're ready to waddle off site, piles more gastronomic fun can be had in the area around Camping Village Paestum and the region: eat your way around the area's small traditional restaurants between a trip to Tenuta Vannulo, Italy's sole organic producer of buffalo milk (and its famed Mozzarella di Bufala cheese). Elsewhere, cultural, sporting and activity highlights are all easily accessible from here, such as the UNESCO World Heritage Site Paestum's temples a short drive away, and the Museo di Paestum, east of the ruins and home to a collection of weathered friezes. The Basilica, or Temple of Hera, is one of the oldest buildings in the region. You could also take a sunny summer day boat trip to the town of Agropoli, or just bask on the beach for days on end – it's only a few steps from the site, after all...

Booking terms and conditions

Admission

All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Dogs

A valid vaccination certificate must accompany your dog.
Dogs are required to wear a muzzle.
Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
Guide dogs are allowed on site free of charge.

Safety

Barbecues are permitted but must be raised off the ground and attended by an adult at all times.
Open fires are prohibited.

Taxes

Vehicles

No vehicle movement between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m..
Only one car is to be parked by the pitch. Extra vehicles must be parked in the designated area.
The car is only included in the rate if you are travelling with a touring caravan or a tent. If you wish to bring a car along with your motorhome/campervan please select the extra.

Visitors

Visitors’ cars are not permitted on site.
