Parco Delle Piscine indeed – set among spectacularly scenic Tuscan countryside on the edge of the hillside village of Sarteano, this park has three immaculate thermal spring-fed swimming pools to splash around in… which means no chlorine, no additives, just fresh mountain water for goggles-free dips. The main pool has two waterslides to keep the kids occupied, and a separate pool is set away from the action. There’s an excellent poolside bar that’s open throughout the day for drinks, ice creams and other snacky treats, and when you need a proper meal, the site has a fab restaurant serving traditional Tuscan cuisine for lunch and dinner and takeaways Kids will be kept well occupied out of the pool too: as well as a summer programme of activities, a nicely shaded playground and green space for ball sports, Parco Delle Piscine also has several ping pong tables and a multisports court for tennis, basketball and volleyball. A short, easy and scenic drive will take you to a large supermarket 10 minutes away; however, most of what you might need is available a short walk away in the village. The site is 550 metres from Sarteano’s centre, and very close to the local supermarket, bread shops, gelateria and a fresh pasta shop, all around 50 metres from the park’s entrance.

Liked: Nous avons tout aimé! Les emplacements sont embragés et grands, les sanitaires très propres. Nous avons apprecié une picine dédiée aux enfants et le parc de jeux très chouette. D’une manière générale le camping est très calme et le cadre reposant.

Disliked: L’accueil a été froid, presque désagréable.

Liked: Campeggio attrezzatissimo. Prima esperienza di campeggio in tenda con amici, è stato molto bello. Il camping è molto pulito compresi bagni e docce, personale super cortese, piazzole molto carine e belle anche le piscine. Consigliatissimo.

Liked: De mooie & grote campingplaatsen met genoeg schaduw, de drie verschillende zwembaden, zeer schoon sanitair (ze bleven poetsen gedurende de dag), rustige camping, vriendelijk personeel, nabijheid mooi plaatsje & centrum, nabijheid winkel, zeer mooie omgeving, veel ligbedden, klantvriendelijkheid, toezicht zwembaden.

Disliked: Miste activiteiten voor tieners/pubers. Zwembad werd eens per twee weken leeg gemaakt en verschoond (prima), maar de bodem liet hier en daar los en deed zeer aan de voeten. Jammer dat ze dit niet bijwerkten. Zwembad rand geeft blauw af op je zwemkleding (krijg je er niet meer uit).

Liked: Sehr schöne, weitläufige Anlage mit gepflegten Pools. Die Stellplätze sind groß, die Sanitäranlagen gepflegt und schön gestaltet. Aufgrund der geringen Auslastung war es sehr ruhig. Wir waren eine Nacht auf der Durchreise hier.

Disliked: Es gibt viele Mücken. Die Preise sind vergleichsweise hoch. Für eine Nacht okay, für einen längeren Zeitraum wäre es mir zu teuer gewesen.

Liked: Milá a vstřícná obsluha, příjemné zázemí, klidné místo kousek od historického městečka. Jelikož jsme cestovali dále, velice oceňujeme, že jsme mohli přespat pouze jednu noc. Ne ve všech kempech je to umožněno. Takže děkujeme.

Disliked: Jediné, na co bychom si mohli stěžovat, bylo počasí... Takže jsme nemohli využít bazén.

Local attractions

As the site is six kilometres from the A1, you’re handily placed for day trips to Siena and Perugia and in a good spot for a stopover midway between Florence and Rome. For more rejuvenation by mountain water, you can drive 11 kilometres to the free thermal baths at Chianciano Terme, or a little further afield to San Filippo Springs, around 50 kilometres from base. The famed wineries of Montepulciano are around half an hour’s drive away, making wine tasting tours a very strong possibility for days out – bring back a bottle or three to quaff once back on site. There’s more water-based stuff to do over at Lake Trasimeno, around 40 minutes’ drive away – pools, rafting, toboggan and twister slides make up the waterpark there, and kids and grownups can book in for a sailing or canoeing lesson at the lake’s watersports centre.
