  • Luxury glamping in the grounds of a 17th-century barn
  • 4km from the Riviera del Brenta; within easy reach of Venice and Padua
  • Stunning courtyard, wine cellar and luxury touches all around
The setting of this spectacular site would be reason enough to bag a break here. Only 25 kilometres from Venice, Glamping Canonici di San Marco is just the ticket for those who yearn to bob about in the city by day, and retreat to a peaceful rural landscape by night (you may have heard that Venice can get rather busy). However. Quite frankly one could set this stunning site anywhere in the world and it would still be worthy of a stay. At your disposal are swish safari tents with loads of little touches that lift this place into serious luxury mode: a wine cellar on site, for example, and crystal glasses in your tent… Glamping Canonici di San Marco is in the town of Mirano, surrounded by orchards and wheat fields. It's easily accessible from Venice, Padua and other famed sights by public transport. The first-class glamping tents are all individually designed, but packed with luxury touches like pillow menus, large bathrooms (with proper bathroom fittings), spacious private gardens, fine linens and even indoor trees… Both air conditioning and a pellet stove are provided so you can keep the temperature just right at all times. The tents are in the grounds of a 17th-century barn that you'll want to visit too, for here are housed the breakfast room, where you can tuck into a splendid spread made using old family recipes; the courtyard, for candlelit evenings under the stars, and the wine cellar, crammed with local wines to try alongside succulent salami. If you'd rather sample the latter back at your luxury base, you can order a 'chic picnic' to take away.

Local attractions

Venice is under half an hour's drive from the site, or you can hop on a train nearby to be whisked over to the city in around 20 minutes. For Padua, it's 35 minutes by car or an hour and a half by bus; a day in each is a must. Even closer is the Riviera del Brenta, the watery length where the Venetian aristocracy constructed their villas in a highly competitive manner (which of course means these are splendidly elaborate and ornate). The most famed Brenta villa is Villa Pisani at Stra, once owned by Napoleon. The villa is open to guests, who flock to see some of its 100+ rooms or the many art exhibitions held there; the grounds and gardens are pretty lush too. Other nearby days out could be to the Caves of Noale nature reserve, 15 minutes' drive away, or the beaut city of Treviso within 45 minutes' drive.
