  • On a hillside overlooking the village of Góis and the river Ceira
  • Within an hour's drive of the medieval city of Coimbra
  • Close to hiking trails, mountain biking, canoeing and canyoning
Mountain bikers, hikers and river sports sorts, get geared up for outdoorsy days around here, for Góis Camping is close to nine waymarked hiking routes and several mountain bike trails, as well as canoeing and canyoning from the rivers that network the locale. Fancy an urbanised day? That’s a cinch from here too, for day trip options around the medieval centre of Coimbra, an hour’s drive away, or to the old shale villages of Comareira, Pena and Aigra Velha, are all within about 20 minutes’ drive. Góis Camping has a serene setting on a hillside overlooking the village of Góis and the Ceira river, a swift stroll from a river beach and the village centre for several handy shops and restaurants. The mountains and countryside around the site have several other river beaches should you fancy a change of scenery. Pitches are set scenically among landscaped terraces, and the friendly site team are on hand to give you inside local nous on the best spots around the area to visit. The park’s well-maintained facilities include free wifi, a TV room and a games room, and you can hire bikes too for two-wheeled tours of the locale.

Local attractions

Aside from the hiking and mountain biking, lots of other outdoorsy options on the river and among the mountains are available nearby: meet at the Old Bridge in Côja and Vide for canoeing and canyoning trips, or at the medieval bridge of Alvoco das Várzeas. From Esporão and Coentral you can try your hand at canyoning, and night hikes around the ridges of the Serra da Lousã mountains can be joined from Lousã town below. If you’re a wildlife watcher, take yourself off deer spotting among the Serra da Lousã’s foothills, or if feathered specimens are more thing, birdwatching for ducks and nesting herons around Arzila’s Paul de Arzila Nature Reserve is a top option. If you’re planning on sticking around there for a few hours, a three-kilometre nature walk begins at the interpretation centre. Plan too to spend a day around the medieval core of Coimbra, which can be reached within an hour by car. A highly pretty university city on the east of the Mondego river, it has lots to see and do, from dining and drinking outdoors around the terrace bars and restaurants of the riverfront park, to touring its shopping complexes should your penchant be procuring a souvenir or two.
