  • Playground, tennis court, restaurant and bar on site
  • 20 kilometres south of Lisbon
Parque Orbitur Costa da Caparica is on the outskirts of the seaside resort of Costa da Caparica, which lies just over the Tagus river from Lisbon. The site is 500 metres from the beach, and around a kilometre from the shops and restaurants of the town centre. With Lisbon just a 20-kilometre journey away as well, the site makes a good base for those who would like to combine trips to the city with some beach time. The site has a bar/restaurant with outdoor terrace, a mini market, playground, tennis court and games room. Other facilities include washrooms with showers, toilets, accessible facilities and baby-changing area. The local beaches are popular for surfing, bodyboarding and kiteboarding, with lessons available from the town's watersports centre. Other activities include walks to see the fossil cliffs or the Capuchos Convent, high in the hills overlooking the resort. With good public transport links from Costa da Caparica it's also easy to reach Lisbon and Sintra for day trips.

Electric gravel pitch

Liked: Great location close to beach and the town, easy walking distance. Lisbon 15€ in an Uber.

Disliked: Sandy pitches. Choice of pitch limited by the amount of electric cable that you carry as only one power point between around 8 pitches. We were forced to take a pitch on the side of the road, (noisy). Toilet and showers are shocking with many tiles missing from the floor of the showers. I saw cleaners in the block but it is filthy! The whole site looks neglected. We were told that the bar/restaurant was closed for refurbishment, this is not true as they opened for a party of school children. Supermarket also closed for supposed refurbishment.

Electric gravel pitch

Liked: Lovely site very near beautiful beaches (5mins walk). Spotless clean facilities and lots of hot water. Friendly, helpful hosts.

Disliked: Had to take a taxi (14 euro return journey) then ferry to Lisbon as we could not find the bus stop for the direct bus to the city. WiFi only works at WiFi point near reception. Not great for prices charged.

Electric gravel pitch

Liked: The staff were very friendly and helpful particularly the lady in reception. Plenty of hit water in the showers and toilets.

Disliked: Pitches were not gravel but sand and covered in weeds.

Electric gravel pitch

Liked: Easy to get to Lisbon via local ferry and train - ferry and train less than 10 euros for 2. The site is large and quiet at this time of year so able to chose your own pitch. Toilet blocks old but clean with good shower. Access to beach good.

Disliked: As other people have said, this site is next to a main road but if you just want it as a base to do Lisbon it’s ok. Suggest ear plugs at night for road noise and music from the bar across the road.

Local attractions

You'll want to get to Lisbon as hastily as poss if you have any sense, but do take time to investigate the area around the site in between city days and daydreaming on the beaches… Worthwhile local trips include the two-kilometre hike to the 16th-century Franciscan Capuchos Convent, built high up above Costa da Caparica, and a five-kilometre trip to the fossil cliff of the Costa de Caparica Protected Landscape, rising up along a coastal length of 13 kilometres. Stop off at Almada on the way to Lisbon to see the famed Sanctuary of Christ the King/ Santuário de Cristo Rei statue, looking out over the Tagus river towards the capital city. Visitors are welcome: head up to the observation deck for spectacular views of the city of Lisbon, the Tagus and the Ponte 25 de Abril. And then onto Lisbon, Portugal’s hilly, coastal capital city crammed with ancient sites such as the Moorish Castle of São Jorge, old pastel-coloured buildings and the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Belém Tower and Jerónimos Monastery. Also take a ride on the historic Tram 28 and take in the sights of a few of the city's dozens of museums, such as the five centuries of decorative ceramic tiles at the National Azulejo Museum, or the ancient artwork of the famed Calouste Gulbenkian Museum. Beyond Lisbon is Sintra, a 50-kilometre journey away, and well worth the trip to see its castles and palaces such as the Palácio Nacional de Sintra and the Castelo dos Mouros with its backdrop of forest.
