Local attractions

If you want to see typical old Almeria, have a walk around ancient and nearby Mojácar, a mountain village with the white buildings typical of this arid area. A couple of kilometres south of the town is the tourist resort of Mojacar Playa, with 17km of award-winning clean beaches, beach bars, shops and watersports such as sailing, diving, windsurfing, jetskiing and waterskiing. Within a short drive of is the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, the biggest protected coastal area in Andalucia, a  UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1997 and filled with spectacular beaches such as the famed naturist beach Playa de los Muertos and – eep – the Beach of the Dead, the beach of Los Genoveses, Monsul and many more: we solemnly say you could hang around these sands for months. A bit further way but still within day trip distance are the  Mini Hollywood or Oasys theme park in Tabernas for Western fans and the Parque Acuatico Vera waterpark. The city of Almeria, with famed Alcazaba fortress, is just over 80km away.
