  • With direct beach access on the Guadalcacín Reservoir
  • Archery, paragliding, kayaking, fishing and more all available
  • In the Alcornocales Natural Park near three Andalusian White Towns
A beach, a reservoir, the White Towns of Andalusia, Sherry Triangle and a splendid Spanish national park… olé. Bag at least a couple of weeks at Camping San José Del Valle for mucho Spanish sightseeing in scenic countryside about 45 kilometres from Cadiz, or mucho activities available straight from the site: pick from kayaking. sailing, fishing, volleyball, paragliding, archery… The setting is sublime here, right next to the blue waters of Cadiz province's Embalse de Guadalcacín or Guadalcacín Reservoir, the biggest in Spain. Kayaking trips are arranged regularly for guests, there's direct access to the reservoir beach, and if you're up for some air-based action, you can paraglide from here directly over the scenic sands. The site's also in the Alcornocales Natural Park, among Mediterranean forest, cork oak and weeks' worth of hiking and cycling trails, mushroom foraging and wildlife watching for otters, wildcats, eagles and deer. Townwise, San José del Valle is six kilometres away, the White Towns of Arcos de la Frontera and Algar are within 10, and the sherry town of Jerez de la Frontera within 30. After all that, amble back to base for Andalusian eats at the restaurant, cocktails with a view at the beach bar, or cooking up some local cuisine (again with a view) at the barbecue area. A playground is around for the kids.

Local attractions

The friendly team at the site can arrange kayaking and canoeing trips or point you towards fishing and sailing, all on the adjacent reservoir. Away from the water, the Alcornocales Natural Park has top cycling and hiking land among its spectacular surrounds, and over 50 discovered caves (so far) dating back to Bronze Age times. More spectacular scenery is about 40 kilometres away in the marshlands and sand dunes of Doñana National Park, the biggest nature reserve in Europe. Thousands of birds can be seen here, along with boars, badgers, deer and endangered species including the Spanish imperial eagle and the Iberian lynx. Townwise, the closest settlement is San José del Valle, home to the Castillo de Gigonza fortress and the ruins of the Baños de Aguas Sulfurosas. You'll also be within easy reach of three fine specimens of Andalusia's White Towns, in Arcos de la Frontera (nine kilometres), Algar (10 kilometres) and Bornos (15 kilometres). Sherry? The Sherry Triangle takes in the towns of Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa María and Sanlúcar de Barrameda (you can access the Doñana National Park by boat from this last too). You should also have at least a day in Cadiz, 45 kilometres away, for its beaches, market and famed old structures including the Castillo San Sebastian and the Torre Tavira watchtower. Splendid Seville, its Alcázar Palace and its Flamenco Museum, is 85 kilometres away.
