  • Family-run campsite facing a golden sandy beach
  • Within 20 minutes' drive of PortAventura theme park
  • Pool, food shop and restaurant serving seafood paella
As if that stunning beach among stunning scenery – and right opposite the site – isn’t enough watery goodness Tarragona’s Arc De Bara, a stunner of a pool is around for watery days too: dive in here for days when you can’t be faffed moving off site. Other lazy options at this family-run and friendly Tarragona campsite and its immediate surrounds include lounging around (and a possible nap) under the shade of an olive tree, a placid game of pétanque, ambling along the beach promenade, or perchance a gentle surf of the free wifi available all around the site…? To take things up a notch, PortAventura theme park is within 20 minutes by car. The on-site restaurant serves tasty seafood paellas – a bit of a must in this part of the world – and there’s also takeaway and a food shop.

Local attractions

Those who don’t want to venture far will find plenty to do in the Arc de Bara surroundings: watersports in the Catalonian sea; cycling and walking paths, hiking trails near the mountains, and the fishing and rural villages all over the region to get a taste of traditional Spain. Within 18 kilometres is the city of Tarragona, the ancient Roman settlement that’s left behind plenty of geekily good old remains, such as its Amfiteatre Romà arena facing the sea, the Necropolis and the last bits of the Roman Forum, all part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. More modern buildings and bits in the city should also be seen, particularly its twelfth century cathedral and its medieval Old Town, before a long lingering bite to eat in the restaurants lining the medieval lanes. For much more of the same, Catalonian capital Barcelona is about an hour’s drive away.
