  • Direct access to cycling route to Pamplona along the Arga river
  • Pool, paddling pool, bike hire and restaurant
How might you fancy a peaceful pedal along the river of a viewsome valley in Spain? Perhaps for about ten kilometres, through varied landscapes, ending up at the excellent capital of the Navarre province Pamplona for a day's sightseeing – before a gentle pedal back to your pitch for tapas? Take your wheels to Camping Ezcaba, in a green scenic setting with a beaut bike ride direct from the site. Hire wheels for the day from the Ezcaba team and take off on its scenic local pedal, along the banks of the lush Arga river and via dams, fountains, angling areas and old bridges to reach the medieval centre of Pamplona. Back at base, the restaurant with spacious terrace dishes up tapas, pizza and sandwiches from Easter to mid-October among its varied menu. A roomy outdoor pool, paddling pool and play area are on site for days when you're feeling lazy: if you're not eating in the restaurant, pick up some bits at the food shop as the evening draws in, to throw onto one of the site barbecues. Among Camping Ezcaba's modern amenities are are toilet blocks suitable for disabled guests and with free hot water; a laundry room with tumble dryer, and a washing-up corner.

Local attractions

If you're not doing the riverside pedal to the province capital (tsk), Pamplona is about ten minutes' drive from the site: whichever way you get there, make this city a first stop. The Camping Ezcaba's top Pamplona picks are the fourteenth century Catedral de Santa María with Gothic cloister and Spain's second biggest bell tower; the town hall; the Church of San Saturnino, and the Museum of Navarre, four storeys of arty exhibits dating from prehistoric times to the twentieth century. If you're in town during July, the world-famed Festival of San Fermin celebrating Navarre's patron saint is among the most visited in all of Spain and includes the centuries-old tradition of encierro or running of the bulls: if you've ever read Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises, these are the festivities at which Jake Barnes et al spend their Spanish sojourn.
