Life can sometimes present decisions. In the case of Sol de Calpe Austral, your main task of the day may well be to decide between the pool, the beach five minutes’ walk away and the other beach 15 minutes’ walk away. Oh, the pondering. If you do select the pool option, you’ll find that it’s been particularly well set up for those with kids in tow: next to the main pool is a shallower kids’ pool, with the playground a few steps away. A grass sun terrace surrounds the whole area, with sun loungers and parasols making it a comfy place to relax, and the poolside bar has tapas, regional dishes, pizzas and pastries to pick from, all well as hot and cold drinks. Away from the pool area, various other pastimes vie for your attention – a sports area, pétanque court and social lounge with library among them. In high season you’ll also have a choice of organised activities and entertainment, with games and classes during the day followed by shows and live music in the evenings. There's a mini market on site too, and everything else you need is a short walk away – a supermarket is within five minutes and several restaurants and beach bars are close by, giving you even more decisions to make...

Local attractions

The resort of Calpe has two sandy beaches to choose from, both with services to rent, plenty of space to play games in and sheltered waters for swimming. You can also get active on the water from the town’s watersports clubs, to try out waterskiing, windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, flyboarding and scuba diving. Within the resort are two nature parks, both very different but both worth a visit. By the water’s edge is the Penyal D’Ifach Natural Park, whose main attraction is a hike around the huge Peñon de Ifach limestone rock (there’s also an option to climb to the top for the brave and sure-footed). A 10-minute walk from the site takes you to Las Salinas, a nature reserve centred around a salt lagoon that’s home to a variety of birdlife including flamingos. If seeing the enormous rock towering over the resort has inspired you to take up climbing, a multi-activity centre in the resort can give you lessons before taking you to the cliffs of Mount Toix (10 minutes away) or the via ferrata climbing route in Ponoig (half an hour away). There’s also the option of exploring underground on a caving expedition to the Bolumini cave system half an hour away. Benidorm is a half-hour drive from Calpe.

Liked: Supermärkte in der Nähe. Stadt und Strand in der Nähe. Schöne und ebene Stellplätze. Saubere gute Anlage.

Liked: Fantastic location for easy access to the beaches, shops and restaurants. Staff are very friendly and helpful

Disliked: Family Fun Fair is next door and we had the occasional noisy evening until 11 pm. However it is surprising how quickly you adjust the the background music.
