  • Riverside site next to the Humboldt Redwoods State Park
  • Playground, volleyball court, dog park and horseshoes pit
  • Close to Highway 101 and the world-famed Avenue of the Giants
The world-famed and mammoth redwood trees of the US are niftily accessed from this Californian park: it's a mere half mile from the spectacular Avenue of the Giants, the 31-mile highway lined with the huge trees of the Humboldt Redwoods State Park. Get to the Avenue to gawp at the high trunks of the Immortal Tree, around 250 feet tall and over 950 years old, and the Shine Drive-Thru Tree, which you can pass your vehicle through. The walking, cycling and horse riding trails of the state park are also a cinch to get to from here. Staying nearby, Giant Redwoods RV Park and Camp is on the banks of the South Fork Eel River, between the Humboldt Redwoods State Park and the small lively tourist town of Myers Flat. There's river access next door for swimming, fishing and kayaking; moving on, the RV park is half a mile from Highway 101, running through the states of California, Oregon, and Washington on the USA's west coast. Giant Redwoods has a volleyball court, tetherball, a horseshoes pit, a playground, communal firepits, a dog park and a small shop selling firewood, drinks and ice cream. There's also wifi access, a launderette, a washing-up area and bathrooms with underfloor heating for colder days.

Local attractions

Get out swimming, kayaking and fishing on the South Fork Eel River, or cycling, walking and horse riding in the Humboldt Redwoods State Park, both next to the site. Then wander along to the Avenue of the Giants, an easy half mile away, to see the famed redwoods towering up above. The best-known sights in the Avenue are the Immortal Tree (so called as it's survived floods, logging attempts and a lightning strike); the Shine Drive-Thru Tree (now privately owned, so you'll need to pay $5 or so if you want to drive your car through) and the Tree House, a home that's partially built inside one of the redwoods. The Avenue runs alongside the spectacular Eel River, where there are several scenic spots for picnicking and wild swimming. Several little Californian towns are along the river, including the RV park's local of Myers Flat, a small and busy tourist town that runs regular events and music festivals. Wine buffs can drive along to the winery and tastings of Elk Prairie Vineyard five miles away, high up at 1,200 feet on nearby Fruitland Ridge.
