To many people pets are considered part of the family. This is why Pitchup.com has selected the top five campsites where holidaymakers don’t have to leave their furry friends at home, but bring them along and enjoy a great outdoor stay.

Union Lido is the best choice for holidaymakers who would like to bring their pets with them. In the Cavallino strip, between the Venice lagoon and the Adriatic Sea, the site offers a number of facilities especially for dogs. The site has its own Dog Camp with a private beach where pets can stay active. Visitors can also take advantage of the dog-sitting services (for an extra charge) and the dog shop which sells treats and all the necessities. There’s even a dog-friendly bar and restaurant and a veterinary clinic on site. Guests looking for a relaxing break can take to the wellness club with steam baths, treatments, and an indoor pool with views over the sea. The eight restaurants and 13 bars on site serve a choice of drinks and cuisine for every taste. Accommodation starts from £14 per night for an electric mixed pitch.

The award-winning Crows Nest Caravan Park is between Scarborough and Filey and here visitors can enjoy the sea views overlooking the gorgeous Gristhrope Bay and Scarborough Castle from their tents, tourers or caravans. The site is dog friendly and pets are allowed in the static caravan for a small extra charge. Dogs are also welcome in the conservatory area of the lounge bar. The North Yorkshire coast offers great exploring opportunities with many beaches offering specific dog-friendly sections.  The facilities on site include a lounge bar with entertainment, family bar with pool tables, a games room, play area and heated indoor pool. Pitches here start from £20 per night while the luxury static caravans start from £345 per week.

The Old Rectory Caravan and Camping Park in Tavistock is a great choice for guests with dogs as the campsite has its own dog-walking field where four-legged companions can be exercised.  The campsite is set on a farm and guests can take advantage of the free-range eggs, sausages and bacon which the owners handily put in the small communal fridge, and when the weather’s right you’ll even be able to tuck into some home-grown veggies from the polytunnel. In their spare time, visitors can explore the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty around the campsite or go to the on-site book exchange. There is a modern toilet and shower block, a laundry room, a washing-up area, and a super kids’ play area with swings and slides. Pitches start from £12 per night with an extra £1 per night fee for pooches, and the dog-friendly pods start from £35 per night with an additional £2.50 per night charge for dogs.

Camping Arena Blanca in Benidorm is only a four-minute drive from the famous Levante beach with its beautiful sand and crystalline water. Visitors with pets are welcomed to this site which has its own pet shower ensuring they are sparkly clean at all times. On site there is also a restaurant and a bar with terrace overlooking the heated swimming pool, a children’s playground and a mini market. Kids can spend time at the mini club where they can play and learn with the entertainment team. The pitches are supplied with electric hook-ups and satellite TV connection all from just £9 per night! The site is eco-friendly and has a biomass heating system for the swimming pool, strict control of water supply, and a number of recycling facilities.

Bryn Dinas Camping Pods is a spectacular Snowdonia site offering year-round accommodation. It is located in Nant Gwynant and welcomes dogs who will love the hiking and walking opportunities in the area - many of which are right on the doorstep, including the site’s own 4.5 acres of private woodland. The top-notch heated pods offer tea- and coffee-making facilities, crockery and cutlery, and hairdryers. Guests can bring their own bikes, canoes or kayaks and keep them safe in the on-site storage area. Facilities also include a laundry and a drying room, a communal area with access to a PC, printer and wifi for a small charge, and a kitchenette equipped with a fridge, toaster, and microwave. The grave of the legendary medieval hound Gelert is located nearby in the scenic mountain village of Beddgelert which the team on site label as a must-see. Accommodation here starts from £39 per night for a pod with a minimal £1.50 per night additional dog charge.
