  • Exclusive-use glampsite in a Stottesdon riverside paddock, Shropshire
  • Top Adventures and Severn Valley Quad Trekking five minutes’ drive
  • Alfresco nature bath; pub 20 minutes walk; farm shop 10 minutes’ drive
If you’re feeling the need to escape from everyone and everything, it’s time to book a stay in The Paddock at Hardwick. You’ll have the stylishly laid-out and spacious bell tent – looking out over peaceful Shropshire countryside – all to yourselves, with nothing to disturb you except the burbling of the neighbouring River Rea, accompanied by the sweet sound of birdsong. Inside the tent is a warm double bed for snuggling into, a coffee table, vintage armchairs and a sideboard for storage. Conjure up camping suppers on the gas stove, and off-grid solar energy powers lighting to pretty the place up at night as well as charge any phones. You’ll soon get with the back-to-nature vibe here. An exclusive-use eco-toilet – apparently with one of the best views in Shropshire – is a few steps away across the camping paddock, and down on the river bank you can wallow alfresco in a nature shower with lots of hot water. Chill in the hammock slung between two trees, or embark on meandering country walks and cycling jaunts. If the fancy takes you, go wild swimming in the river, and warm up afterwards with peppermint tea brewed from the leaves of the plants outside your tent; it’s fantastic for curing migraines and aiding sleep – not that you’ll need much help after all that Shropshire fresh air. If you want to pick up bits for a barbecue, there’s a farm shop 10 minutes’ drive away, and a supermarket in Cleobury Mortimer (15 minutes). Alternatively, you can have a wander down to the local hostelry (20 minutes’ walk) for generous helpings of pub classics.

Bell tent

Liked: Incredibly private, very large beautiful riverside spot with stunning scenery and walks, felt like we had half of Shropshire to ourselves, just the sound of running water and hooting owls to keep you company at night, wonderfully maintained and stocked with everything you’d ever need. Outdoor shower next to the river was a great addition, impossible not to feel completely at peace with nature. The hosts couldn’t be more welcoming and helpful, incredibly informative and helped us find a taxi service into Bridgnorth when we were struggling to find somebody ourselves. Impossible to find any flaws at the paddock, the best experience me and my partner on any of our camping breaks up and down the country. Would thoroughly recommend to anybody seeking a complete escapist countryside getaway, and hope to be returning again soon. 10/10 👌
