  • Relaxed rural campsite on the edge of Cannock Chase
  • Five minutes' walk to Great Haywood; a mile to the Shugborough Estate
  • Opposite a farm shop and café; overlooking a canal junction
There's so much to like about canals – the wildlife that lives in and around the water, the flat towpaths for cycling or walking the dog, watching the colourful narrowboats chugging by… So it'll come as no surprise that there's also much to like about Great Haywood Canalside Camping, a relaxed rural site overlooking the northern edge of Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. First of all, there's the fact that this Staffordshire spot is directly opposite a popular farm shop and café, where you can stop to stock up on supplies, call in for a coffee or pick your own berries during the summer months. Number two on the list has got to be how close this place is to Great Haywood village centre – a five-minute stroll is all it takes to get to the nearest pub, pharmacy and convenience store, which is quite something in a spot as peaceful as this. Dog-friendly rules and Great Haywood Canalside Camping’s dedicated dog-walking area make a third great reason to camp here, while last – but by no means least – there's the fact that you're under a mile from the gorgeous green parkland of the National-Trust run Shugborough Estate.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: No Frills as the sign says but a very comfortable and relaxing place to spend a few days camping. Water, clean toilets and a very concise site etiquette that enables visitors to enjoy themselves while respecting others peace and quiet. Very short walk down the canal and you're in shugborough hall and grounds. Peaceful and relaxed atmosphere. We'll definately be going again.

Disliked: Nothing.

Non-electric hardstanding and grass campervan pitch

Liked: Absolutely beautiful location on the waters edge. Watching life pass by at narrowboat slow pace. Excellent friendly helpful welcome on arrival. Thanks to Pete, a credit to the site. Plenty of space when I stayed mid week, nice to not be ontop of one another and enjoy peace. Toilets clean. Bins available. Water point for good fresh drinking water. Location handy for walks from site. Shops nearby. Farm one over road with cafe with in and outside seating. Spar up the road 5 mins walk. Pub nearby. As a solo it’s sensible price unlike others. THE BEST No Frills Camping Ever…

Disliked: Limited weeks opening this year. Sadly as would love to visit again. Hope going forward it’s able to open longer. There is a call for the more budget friendly & no frills sites unlike other local sites that charge a kidney! I don’t need EHU & other extras to inflate the price I pay as a solo.
