  • Back to basics site at the White Moss walks area
  • A five-minute drive from both Grasmere and Ambleside villages
  • Hikers' paradise: walk to Grasmere lake, Rydal Cave and others
Now this is a pretty stunning spot for a rural Cumbria stay: White Moss Campsite is part of the White Moss walks area, with Grasmere on one side and Rydal Water on the other. It’s also pretty much right in the centre of the Lake District National Park, so it’s easy to get out and about to wherever you fancy roaming around the park. Explores should, of course, start locally: there are lots of lovely paths for hikers and bike riders to follow just outside the site – it’ll take you about 20 minutes to stroll to the shores of Grasmere, and you’ll be able to wander out onto the trails of the White Moss area at your leisure. Looking a little further afield, it’s a five-minute drive to either Ambleside or Grasmere town for shops, pubs and restaurants. Before setting off for this lovely location it’s worth noting that you’ll need to be fairly self-sufficient, as the facilities here are on the basic side (though that’s a small trade-off for such a fine spot to settle in…) Guests will have access to a washing-up sink with running water (although you’ll need to bring your own drinking water) and temporary toilets. There aren’t any showers, but the owners note that the river a few metres away is pretty refreshing if you need to splash yourself with some a bit of water…
